Well, I liked a lot of the songs, but the pack was jacked-up ridiculous in terms of how difficult it became from VGMP to VGMP2. Practically 9/10 of the simfiles were crazy ass streams of jumps. I liked VGMP a lot because most of the difficult patterns were in Challenge mode, and Heavy had less complicated patterns.

I particularly liked Deadalus, Get a Weapon, Megaman X3 Intro, Battle vs Mewtwo, and Don't Be Afraid. I know that's not all of them, but almost everything else was jump-crazy. It may just be that all of the simfile makers are indexers, and I just suck for not playing index, but I found VGMP2 a lot less fun and a lot more challenging. I guess a simfile pack is intended for the challenge, but I focused more on the steps than the songs. >_>

Well, I'm always put down by other people because I don't play index. And I can hardly do most of these songs. So I sort of connected the two. My style isn't spread or index, maybe I should just try one or the other. ;/

It seems you play 3 finger. If that is with two hands, then it's very similar to index.

Also index isn't that good of a style for playing sims that aren't just streams.

I've never touched a DDR machine in an arcade before, and I've never played the various computer/console incarnations either except Guitar Hero but that is pretty different. But while looking for a song (SSH's Decisive Battle), I found my way to this website and downloaded this pack (and the first VGMP) and StepMania.

Sweet pack! Sadly my level of noob-ness keeps me from really enjoying any of it. All I can accomplish is playing the 600 AD piano song up to the first tempo change lol. And on the first pack, I can play a little bit of that Aquarius Castlevania III song.

I haven't looked around the rest of this site yet, but I assume I can find some easy beginner stuff around here right? Or is there a better site for that? And is it just me or is it hard as hell to tell when the steps are coming up on the default speed of 1x? I set it to 2x or more (depending on the song) so the notes fly a bit faster but are more spaced out and I can tell when to thit them better.

You can definitely find songs to download better suited to beginners. This pack was made for long-time players. Just search for simfiles made for pad. (Sorry for not giving links; I could find some very quickly, but I'm too lazy.)

Speed mods are used by almost all of the entire population of the StepMania community. CMods (the c is for constant, and the default ones are C200 and C400) have become the norm for players, and most experienced players have edited files in their directories to include higher speeds, some even exceeding 700. Generally, as people have played more, they have raised their speed mods to higher speeds.

Hope you have fun if you continue playing StepMania.

I liked the pack, personally. I haven't gotten a AA on any of them yet, but I'm getting better at them! ^_^ I can't wait to help along with VGMP 3.
