I've been playing Sonic Transformed nonstop... I have about 210 stars in whateverit'scalled mode and I'm working on getting more top times in Time Trials. I'm about to get a top 10 or so time on the first map.

God damn, tips on getting the fastest possible times? I tried a bit of time trial and couldn't even come close to top times even with clean laps, not sure what I'm doing wrong right now.

Only have like 45 stars in career mode though.

1) Drift management is crucial. You need to be able to switch drifting angles (your drift charge will reset if you switch angles, so try to switch right after getting to charge 1, 2, or 3, if you need to switch.)


2) Drift 3 is usually worth the wait, but if you've been slowed down, sometimes a level 1 drift will be better (I think) so you can get back up to max speed quicker.


3) Don't use the purple road boosts right after a level 3 drift boost. They will cancel your drift boost and start a new and shorter boost (I think it applies to item boosts too)


4) Hug corners when drifting, as close as possible.

you can get away with being closer to the inside on both sides of the corner. Depends on your handling and the sharpness of the turn. Some turns will require that you let go of the gas to make it (the last turns of the Billy Hatcher level are brutal)


5) Whenever going off a short jump, try to drift off of it and roll towards the direction you're going. It will inch you forward faster than just hanging in the air or doing other stunts, unless. . .


6) When jumping, if you have enough time to do 3 stunts, do it in 3 different directions. This will give you a level 4 boost, the max boost possible.


7) In plane mode, you can do risk boosts by doing aerial rolls right before hitting an object. I can't do these consistently yet, don't ask me.

8) Also in plane mode, you can do rolls in a direction after getting a boost to go faster. Only works right after a boost, otherwise rolls slow you down. It's between 2-4 you can do. This makes the NiGHTS level very technically difficult when mixed with the abundance of risk boosts that are possible there.


uh, that's all I can think of at the moment.

9) oh, and you can do a boost-start at the beginning if you tap accelerate every time the screen fades (3)
You can do it in rolling starts too, but the screen doesn't fade so you have to predict it.

Okay I'll add you guys and I'll start up a custom game around 10 to whoever can play. Also reach when you see a turn coming up as close as you can just drift the turn and keep the drift until the turn ends. If its a rather long turn Drift levels will allow your boost to last longer. And always try to go for longer tricks off of jumps. The more tricks you do the most boost you get up to level 4. ALSO Boost's do stack. So if you have a boost and use a boost then it does become a level 2 boost.

1) Everyone uses a boost right before the new lap starts. This is very powerful with a character with 6 boost (ralph and gilius can have 6 boost, not sure who else can)

some people will also do a level 3 drift before the finish line, but I think that's sometimes bad as you can use it to boost over rough terrain and save more time)

2) Many maps can be done with 1 handling and 1 accel. So you have 5speed/5boost, 4speed/6boost, or 6 speed/4boost (not even sure if the last one exists yet). Ocean View is best done with 6boost I think. The Billy Hatcher and Burning Ranger levels are two where handling and accel might play a role (accel helps on turns where you need to let go of gas, or rapidly tap gas, not sure which one the best players do)



Edit: Good benchmark characters with 5speed/5boost are Shadow/Vyse/MetalSonic (not sure if others exist, and don't have robotnik unlocked)
I like to use them for my first attempts at a low time

Uh... while we're on the topic of steam. All this card/badge business got me looking at the market, something I've never done before. In doing so, I discovered I owned two identical Dota 2 cosmetics worth $40 each o_o. I don't even play Dota 2 anymore and I'm pretty sure I either got these for free or something cheap like $2.50. iirc there was like some bug with them and they were removed from the store making them super rare.

tl;dr I just made the easiest $80 of my life. Practically like the steam sale was free this year. <3

ps if i sold them last month they were worth $70 each ;_;

I've noticed high boost stats improve speed much more than high speed. e.g. going from like 4 speed to 6 speed only shaves a bit of time off, but going from 3 boost to 5 boost made me ridiculously faster. Gotta get a character with 6 boost

Just finished Fez (and all the secrets, completion percentage 209.4%) -- some of those secrets were *really fucking hard* to figure out. I kept a notebook full of random bullshit and took screenshots to save for later translation and everything.

I had to look up the Black Monolith solution, though. I still have no freaking idea how you're supposed to solve that one legitimately. I don't have anything in my notes that make it clear what you're supposed to even look for... I must have missed something somewhere.

But thank goodness for that map feature. Made things a lot easier in terms of backtracking.

There's also a final hidden room you can get into once you get all the cubes, but it's kinda anticlimactic -- just a v-shaped/heart-shaped cubey thing.

Nobody knows why the solution of the black monolith is what it is. I was a part of a group that worked at brute forcing it which is how it came to be. I remember reading somewhere that Phil Fish said earlier this year that nobody to his knowledge actually knows why that was the solution.

EDIT: Braid and Limbo come to mind when I think of other good puzzle platformers with Braid being the more complicated game. Limbo's kinda short and the puzzles aren't too tough, but the game was still pretty fun.

Already solved Braid -- and I'm really proud of that one because I did it without a walkthrough (even for the stars).

But Fez right now is eating my brain. I want to solve the Monolith but everything else seems to be (more or less) accounted for.
