Default Luka Rocco Magnotta

~edit:

Turns out he was caught. You can all sleep, now. (:

(disturbing content)

I'm surprised not to see a thread about this already. This has to spread. Something horrifying happened 30 mins from where I live, and the perpetrator has to be found.

from http://www.montrealgazette.com/busin...157/story.html

The hunt for Luka Rocco Magnotta, the suspect in a grisly mutilation murder that left traces on the doorstep of the Conservative party's headquarters, has gone global.

Magnotta — also known by the aliases Eric Clinton Newman and Vladimir Romanov — is now wanted by Interpol, the world's largest international police organization, after a Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old has an extensive online profile and significant Internet notoriety earned by videos in which he tortures and kills kittens.

Montreal police backtracked Thursday on claims they made this week that Magnotta had dated Karla Homolka, one of Canada's most notorious sex killers. Police officials clarified Thursday that they were aware of the many rumours posted on the Internet, but had no proof to substantiate those stories. In 2007, Magnotta came forward to news media in 2007 to deny that he had dated her, although many at the time suggested he was the one who started the rumours, to gain attention.

One of Magnotta's relatives said they spent Wednesday night close to the phone in case Canada's highest-profile fugitive calls.

"He hurt us when he was younger and we haven't been in contact with him in a while," said the relative. "We heard about all of this on the news, and then the police called and asked us to let them know if he calls us."

It appears police have good reason to be in a hurry to make an arrest. CTV reported late Wednesday night that the package with the severed foot had a note inside it indicating that the suspect was planning to kill again. The note reportedly also said that a total of six body parts had been sent in the mail.

The bizarre and gruesome story began to unfold even before police found a decomposing torso in a suitcase that had been placed on the curb with a pile of garbage in a west-end Montreal neighbourhood Tuesday.

A video has been circulating on the Internet for several days which purports to show Magnotta, 29, repeatedly stabbing a man with an ice pick, then decapitating and dismembering him before playing with his limbs.

The Montreal Gazette has confirmed that police have obtained a video of the crime, and are taking steps to have it removed from a website where it was posted, but it is unclear whether it is the same video.

On Tuesday, police began to comb through garbage bags and furniture left on a Montreal street after a janitor discovered the torso about 10 a.m. that day.

Their focus soon shifted to a second-floor apartment at Place Lucy and Decarie Boulevard, near the alley where the torso was found.

The small unit included a tiny kitchen area, a bathroom and a few pieces of furniture, including the blood-stained mattress where police say the victim may have been killed.

Richard Payette, who lives across from Magnotta's apartment, said the unit had been left open Wednesday morning — after crime scene technicians had finished their work — to air it out, but that the putrid smell of death was still "pungent" in the hallway.

Residents of the building said police were showing around a picture of a missing Asian man, believed to be the victim.

An autopsy on the body is expected to reveal how the man was killed and whether he was dead before his limbs were removed.

Police have not released the identity of the dead man, but said he knew his killer.

"The suspect and victim knew each other," Montreal police Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere told reporters Wednesday. "It isn't linked to organized crime."

Hours after the torso was found, a 20-year Canada Post employee unknowingly delivered a bloodied foot to the headquarters of the Conservative party, just blocks from Parliament Hill.

The package was addressed to the Conservative Party of Canada, not to any one individual.

A senior staffer partially opened the brown-papered package, which was later found to contain a left foot. There was no note inside the box.

The staffer thought the package, which was a bit bigger than a shoebox, looked suspicious, said party spokesman Fred DeLorey.

It was taken to the office of Jenni Byrne, director of the Conservatives' 2011 election campaign, who saw blood inside the box and smelled "a very foul odour," DeLorey said. Police were called immediately. Later Tuesday night, another package — this time with a bloody hand inside — was intercepted by police at Canada Post's head office in Ottawa.

The package was in transit to the Liberal Party of Canada's Ottawa head office, and was tracked down with the help of Canada Post investigators.

In a 2007 interview with the Toronto Sun, Magnotta complained about "lies" linking him romantically to schoolgirl killer Homolka, who was released from prison in 2005.

Websites apparently maintained by Magnotta contain numerous screeds that decry the damage inflicted to his reputation by the Internet rumour mill.

"Many hoax websites are created using my image and name, posing as me to seem more believable in respect to the type of audience these website have, I feel I don't need to list them specifically but people need not be told, not to believe what they read and to take it as fact," Magnotta apparently wrote in one article entitled "Cyber Stalking" posted beside a photo of himself reclining shirtless.

After he allegedly posted videos in which he killed kittens, animal rights activists around the world mobilized to identify him and offered a $5,000 reward to bring him to justice.

Five years ago, on a website called orato.com, a person using the name Luka Magnotta, who identified himself as a professional model, talked about his battle with mental illness.

"I am a survivor of mental illness and im not ashamed of it," he wrote. "I went through a very traumatic childhood and in my teen years experimented with drugs and alcohol. At first I thought this was the problem . . . it wasnt. I am Manic Depressive or Bi Polar. One day im normal, the next I cant get out of my bed and then next week I want to conquer the world lol. Very confusing to someone who doesn't understand."

Eric Schorer, the superintendent of the apartment building where Magnotta lived, said he was a good tenant who kept quiet and paid his rent.

Payette, like the other people who resided in the building, was shocked to learn his low-key neighbour was a suspect in a brutal homicide.

"He was a solitary kind of guy. He did his own business," Payette said. He said Magnotta, who was widely known around the building for having worked in gay porno movies, never acknowledged him.

"The only time I ever heard him speak was about three weeks ago. I was walking in the hallway and his door was ajar. I could hear him talking to another man. He said, 'Are you going to stay here tonight?' the other man said, 'No, I have to go home,'" Payette recalled.

"And now there's that smell. I can't get it out of (my head). The smell was just overwhelming this morning."

Payette said he had noticed the "nearly new" suitcase in the parking area behind his building long before a janitor decided to open it on Tuesday and made the discovery. Payette said it looked so new he even considered grabbing it for himself.

"I'm glad I didn't."

Luka Rocco Magnotta is currently on the first page of the Interpol wanted list, if you ever see him or have information about where we could find him, call 911.
