Eh, Devil's Music Box isn't bad. I like playing it because it's so happy and cute sounding, heh.

I'm musically amused easily if I like it initially. I can see how though people can see this as a cheap way to get Song Producer title. But eh... I don't know, I have fun playing it as it is currently.

edit: just played DMB. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt, and say that this was your first real attempt at making a song/file. Which, if it's true, I will say it's not bad at all. Yea, the file and song are very bland, but if you're as new to musical composition as I am, I'd say the song wasn't that bad, since I can tell you right now I'm not capable of even making a song like that. Good on you for putting an effort to make song for FFR, and then stepping it. Next time, you should try either a) adding some different instruments/changing BPM/key changes, and b) send your songs/files to friends/judges/strangers/anybody. It's very important to get people to playtest files. That's key in perfecting your work. Good luck Jake!

why? the only benefits DMB has are that it's good lower-level practice for jumpjacks and it's short.. there's no way you could say it's more entertaining than fractured sunshine or sleep unless it's because you can't read those charts lol

1. I was referring to the song being more interesting than Faint Breath.
2. I can read every chart in the game comfortably at a 2.0 speed mod. Even Sleep and Do I Smile.
3. That's being an elitist saying it's only good for low level practice when you can't just enjoy the feeling of hitting the chart.
4. Alloyus put little to no effort into Sleep and it shows so radiantly it hurts.

Here's a few screen shots from an extremely similar SM, from Alloyus himself mind you, that shows it's lack of pattern variation and poor pattern choices overall, among other things.












And I purposely ignored the intro. Which is the same thing.

Notice all the anchors, the really bad transitions, and the overall fact it's literally just a dump of every sound he hears at once instead of actually trying to emulate the song. He even messes up transitioning into the main bulk of the song in my opinion, but that is kind of subjective.

Sleep is a prime example of some of the poorest charting choices ever made for an FFR chart. I cannot stress how bad I feel the chart is, and how horrible it is it's in game. I just can't.

Also, don't take this the wrong way, Alloyus is capable of stepping a good chart, and I earnestly think this isn't a representation of what he can actually do, it just shows some of the current stepping meta, and how this sort of stuff is more acceptable than a chart Jake actually put effort into, simply because it's more difficult and "good" for scoring.

Discussing why you do or do not like the song and offering constructive criticism to the step artist/author is fine. Devolving the argument into trolling and flamebaiting is not. If you're gonna keep talking about this, keep it civil.

jake ferguson made a half-assed song and made a half-assed generic file (without technical mistakes, which is good) just to get the ffr r1 simfile author and ffr r1 music producer title (which is sad as fuck but it's a problem some ffr kids have, they want 'recognition')

I honestly do not see how devil's music box got through the judging. Production quality is that of a toddler who just discovered a xylophone.

Jake, I don't know you personally and I don't mean to offend you but the song is just really not at an acceptable level of quality imo. The chart matches the song well but there's no music theory, only one cheap-sounding instrument, lack of mastering and lack of any kind of atmosphere in the song. If you can't handle criticism though..

Satanic unicorn orgy is poor (for you) because you don't like it. That's a matter of taste.
Devil's music box is poor because it lacks in production value. That's objective (at least, more objective than taste alone because it's also a matter of how well fundamentals of music are applied).

It's like comparing this painting to this drawing (lol I searched furry on da cause the first page is usually riddled with shitty drawings).
The first painting is obviously a well-painted painting done by a skillful painter but it could very well not be your taste because it's subject matter you don't like. The second drawing is just technically very poor.
