Do you lift your fingers up off of the keys when playing?
Usually I lift my fingers off of the keys, but sometimes I'll try and not do it yet I'll end up lifting them up when things get rough. It seems like not lifting them would be more efficient and faster, but I can't play as fast without lifting them up.

Re: Do you lift your fingers up off of the keys when playing?
I lift my fingers up for easy parts of songs (basically anything that's not a FMO/FGO I lift my fingers up 100% of the time)
For FMOs, I don't lift up my fingers when 1) jacks 2) extremely fast stream like Reality For FGOs, I don't lift up my fingers when 1) jacks 2) fast fast stream 3) fast jumpstream |

Here's what I say:
Hit the notes. No matter how you press the button, just press it. Real answer: Most of the time I put my fingers on the buttons for a quick response time. |

I lift up because it makes keytaps and not lifting up doesn't.

If you don't lift then you'll probably get many more boos than when you do lifting. So it's a matter of choice.
I don't lift when I play stepmania. I life when I play FFR.

Re: Do you lift your fingers up off of the keys when playing?
The main reason why you would want to lift up your fingers is to have louder keytaps, which would be better for a video.
On hard songs like RATO, my fingers never lift up at the fast parts. |

Louder keytaps can help you stay on beat to most likely.

Re: Do you lift your fingers up off of the keys when playing?
I'm a slider, so for the most part my fingers stay completely rooted to the keyboard even during the most intense songs (see my Disregard video, it barely looks like my fingers are moving). The only exception to this would be jacky patterns and runningmen, in which case I lift my fingers up every time.

I tend to lift because if I don't lift up enough my keyboard won't register the next keypress.

I lift my fingers when playing. Infact, until now I was completely unaware that people didn't. My lifting is mainly due to a force of habit, but also it's easier to distinguish what note I'm on during a song. It also makes things flow alot easier and sexy key taps are always a plus.

Re: Do you lift your fingers up off of the keys when playing?
Depends on the song. For songs like BB Revenge, the arrows are too fast to hit if you lift your fingers, so I keep them glued to the keys.
I sporadically lift my fingers in the hopes of positively influencing my accuracy in hitting the keys, particularly in songs with a good beat. |

Re: Do you lift your fingers up off of the keys when playing?
Wow, my PA has increased by 25% now just after becoming accustomed to not lifting my fingers up. It was really wonky at first, getting lots of boos and misses, but now it feels like a large difference.
Edit: Certain patterns are easier now, but some patterns feel harder. Even generic left hand double jacks are giving me goods for now.

Only on fast speed patterns and on wrist-jacking patterns.
