also might wanna look at changing your hand/wrist positioning if it is hurting. FFR isn't meant to hurt :/

QWOP
ASL; ZX./ Anything of that sort. You don't want your hands too close together but at the same time, you don't want them too far apart. As for your hands not hurting - build up stamina.

Re: Wrists and hands hurting.
I know this as a saxophone player - when I entered as a freshman in college as a music student I spent a couple hours practicing piano and then played stepmania at night. I complained about my hands hurting to my professor and he gave me some sound advice.
If your fingers are hurting, its often due to increased tension within the muscles of your hands. RELAX! I remember those days of trying to catch up with faster songs I'd press the keys harder, rather than lighter. Also, your fingers could be coming off the keys too far - more than a centimeter is too much, and a millimeter is preferable. So relax your fingers and hands, and do a couple slower songs before slamming any more difficult songs, focusing on light, piston-like strokes. Have you ever thought about your shoulders while you play? If they are moving or even raised during play, you probably have extra tension slowing you down. "Your hands and wrist will hurt no matter what. Just get better on spread. It'll work out trust me." I disagree with the first sentence here, because if you focus on relaxing your fingers, (it wont come overnight, it takes work) the pain will go away, just like mine did. The fingers have muscles - it takes time to train, coordinate, and strengthen them. It'll come. |

Re: Wrists and hands hurting.
I feel more comfortable if my hands are a little closer together personally. I used dfjk and have for a long time. My hands dont seem to hurt me unless I like go uber overboard playing nothing but 12s for hours on end lol.

Pain is weakness leaving the body.
That's the manly approach, or you could go the sane route and do what Sax suggested. Tensing up is common when you're playing hard songs. It's simply a matter of mental and physical conditioning...you CAN do it.
