There have been plenty of people in the past that have come up and beaten people you wouldn't expect in tournaments. Frankly I think people need to stop with the I can't attitude and actually push. On another note, how exactly does extending the prizes downward help the top 3 in any way if they have the tokens as you're assuming? If anything the focus should be alternative prizes for the top 3, not extending prizes further down.

Edit: Also, it basically defeats the purpose of coming in first when people all the way down to 16th are receiving all tokens. I didn't even realize he did that in the last and he shouldn't have.
As the pool of contestants grows, the window of places to recieve a token shrinks, and the skill of the participants increases, the chance of a token to be awarded to someone that doesn't yet own it, even with a fair skill boost, draws nearer and nearer to an impossibility. The token distribution is appropriate for D1 or D2, but D6 takes most of these parameters to their extremes. There are two people that are capable of AAAing almost every song 90 and below. There are three more that are capable of low-SDGing every 90 and below. Given that there are so many competitors in D6 this time around, restricting tokens to the top 3 spots seems trivial. Furthermore, the credit prizes are expanded in the higher divisions, and I would have expected the same for the tokens.

I can see you've made up your mind about this, and I won't discuss it any further. Just wanted to put my thoughts out there.

As the pool grows as in number of people playing? Because the number of people playing is way less now than it has been in previous years when there were only 5 divisions or less. I also don't know where you get so many in D6 this time around. Prizes hold little value when they're just thrown around. Also, not all the same people from D6 are even signing up this time around.

Both. I've only ever participate in the 7th official, and I was looking into the 6th a little; I still sustain my points. It's possible I'm misunderstanding the value of these tokens, but at the frequency at which they're being handed out I'd thought there would be more tokens offered. Why the token rewards aren't congruent with the credit rewards also confuses me.

7th official, D6 16th place - 60000 credits, 5 event/support tokens
8th official, D6 6th through 16th place - 0 credits, 0 support/event tokens
I would be surprised if the top 3 in D6 don't already have every support and event token. The prizes for the 7th official make more sense to me.
The bolded are a poor example of how prize distribution should work. First off, the token distribution in the 7th official was absolutely horrendous -- the fact that 16th place of D6 got 3 support tokens and 2 event tokens while 1st place of D1 wasn't entitled to event tokens is absolutely ridiculous. D6 is no more entitled than the newer players who are competing because they are going through the same tournament structure of 8 songs, and there are eliminations every round in both divisions. The numbers are irrelevant and the difficulty is relative. Prizes were flooded into the system and entirely too many people have them, which defeated the purpose of event tokens being elusive to begin with.

In addition to this, people are sitting here upset about prize distribution in divisions, when in reality, divisions are a luxury on their own. I'd love to be placed in a division when playing in a ITG/PIU/DDR/GH/RB/Pop'n/IIDX/(insert rhythm game here) tournament.

If you've only participated in the 7th then you participated in the one that most people can tell you was not done very well. The point of the tokens isn't to give them out like that. Again I hadn't even realized he did that. He basically took away the value of those tokens. Look into the past tournaments and their prize structures. Back then it was even harder to win because there were more people and less divisions. If you're asking why they don't go down to 5th place like the credits do, it's because as you go down in places the prizes should be less.

Okay, guess I didn't realise the intended rarity of these tokens, and the 7th official prizes were a mistake. The prizes look fine.

I just went back through old tournaments and the first 3 tournaments only payed out the top 3 people of each division. There were less divisions back then and over 1000 participants. The 4th is where it started to extend down to 5 places. A sixth division wasn't added until the 6th official which opens up more opportunities for prizes. This tournament is also the first raw scoring which opens a whole different door up as well.

Edit: Oh one more thing I want to note. The support tokens used to be something you had to buy to get. So we're giving out something that people paid for in the past. They really shouldn't be thrown out loosely but we are trying to give people chances to get them with various events.

I'll probably try to find alternate prizes for D6 since he gave out all 5 all the way down to 16th which is insane. I really don't know what else we can give out because we don't have the things that we used to back in the day. (T-shirts, subscriptions, etc)

I don't know about you guys, but all I want is that lovely FREEDOM DiVE token.

But alas... I don't think I'll be THAT good in D6 right now to go and nab that token, haha.

Cheers to low D1-6 players! We shall battle gloriously!

One day people will go in D6, lose on round 1 and get all the tokens because everyone in the top 40 got everything from the past tournaments.

I hope my Nanairopanda v2 get doesn't encourage a higher placement. :/ I wouldn't expect to be put in anything above D3.

I don't thinking a "murk up your PA" token is worthy of a bump up.

If it was that'd be stupid.

Also, I don't intend for this to "diss" you or anything.

He's talking about his score on Nanairopanda v2, not the acquisition of the token itself. The score is pretty strong, but the miss count isn't exactly helpful for the cause.
