ok, i would say yes it is definately worth it...
this link compares the 9600se to the fx5600xt...a fairly low level card http://www.ocprices.com/index.php?ac..._id=195&page=3 this compares the 9600xt to the fx5700 ultra...i know its in german but so what look at the graphs...you can see here the fx5600 at the very bottom and you can imagine the 9600se even below that http://www.hartware.net/review_368_3.html obviously the 9600xt had a distinct advantage over the se card

Well if it weren't for the fact that everybody's telling me to go with ATI, I'd think the GeForce 5600XT is actually better than the 9600 SE, or at least that's what all the graphs show...how much is the 5600 XT, anyway?

Really...well, should I just go with that then? It seems to be better than the 9600XT, and all of the graphs show better performance anyways...plus, Nvidia wouldn't have gotten to be as big as it was if it's cards sucked. But, then again, HP is like the top manufacturer, so...

You don't want the 5600xt. those are being compared to the 9600se, which is crap. 9600 xt would surely beat those scores.

people only buy nividias becuase they think core clock is everything...which it certainly is not...the 5600xt is not nearly as powerful as the 9600xt...go with that if you can spend $25 more

It's just that I'm on a tight as hell budget till I can find a fuggin' job, so I don't want to spend any more than I have to...but I figure if it's worth it, I'll have to upgrade again anyway...Thanks for all your help, btw.

get agp huh? why didn't anyone else think of that? oh maybe because you are a complete idiot and need to not post ever.
nVidia doesn't make crap, but for a while they were behind ATi in performance (back in the FX5200-5800 days). Now the top of the line ATi (R9800XT) and the top of the line nVidia (FX5950) are pretty much on the same level performance wise. nVidia pretty much is a shady company that makes a good product. |

haha AGP....well i think the Fx5800 can compete with the 960xt if you want to compare the those prices and you want to go with a nvidia card...which, btw, there is nothing wrong with

Lol yeah, I think I'm gonna get an AGP card. But cool...I'll shop around, and I'm hopin I can find an open box 9600XT or something, because then I get a free copy of HL2 with it (which would pwn majorly).

FX5800 is crap from the crap line nVidia came out with to counter the ATi 9700. nVidia quickly realized it sucked and released the 5700 and the 5900, which are relatively comparable to ATi's offerings. If you are looking at nVidia, the only real option would be the 5900(xt probably).
Hmmm, I think I should summarize this thread to help you with your decision. ATi Offerings: -9600XT 128mb ($150) not as great performance as some other -9600Pro 128mb ($100) less performance than the 9600XT, but less money as well -used 9700pro ($???) if you can find a cheap one this will be your best performer nVidia Offerings: -FX5900xt ($150?) better performance than the 9600XT (I think) but maybe too expensive -Ti 4200 ($100-) if and only if you don't care about DX9, this is a great card. and cheap so I think that basically sums up your options, there are others, but those are the best price to performance that I know of... Edit: the thing is that you may not even notice the performance difference between these cards, so I think the 9600xt is as good of an option as any. Plus, the half-life 2 effectively drops the price by $50... |

don't choose 9600SE or 5600XT, they are almost as slow as MX440.
within $100, 9500Pro/9600Pro(non Pro sucks) or Ti4200/4600 is good as guys say. |
