My Mom Blames Everything on Videogames
Well I brought home my report card today and it way fairly bad but not ftw awful. My average was %65 which I really do want to improve but my mom took it fairly bad. She yelled at me then blamed it all on World of Warcraft. Everytime I do anything ranging to this to washing with the wrong type of cloth they blame on the video game I play mostly at the time. My sister got a %69 but she doesn't care because she doesn't have anything that she can easily be blamed for her marks. I now can't play games on the weekens (was already grounded in the weeks from litterally nothing because "I would get distracted".
Anything I could do to fix this? Also sorry if im thread whoring today :/ |

No. There is nothing you can do to change the way your parents raise you. You could try doing something really stupid and over-dramatic like running away but you'll get tired and hungry by the time you get to the end of the street and come crawling back.
Take your punishment like a man and do better in school. |

Re: My Mom Blames Everything on Videogames
I'm trying to do better in school (crappy year unit wise) and I get grounded like all the time. In grade 6 I couldn't watch TV or play Games for about six months because "I needed to get my head out of the game", I didn't come home when the street lights came on in the winter and came home super late...somthing like...8PM.

Re: My Mom Blames Everything on Videogames
You should just do good in school man, its not that hard, I promise. I'm not at home for about 5 hrs, and when I am i'm on the cpu playing Warcraft or DDR, I maintain an A average easily! Just do things while you do other things. Take what a teacher or instructor says, and find the easiest possible way to do things.
If you need guidance, just look at my sig.

Re: My Mom Blames Everything on Videogames
Don't play it for a while and see if your grades improve. I've gotten bad grades due to videogames before, how are you so sure it isn't videogames that are the problem? And if it isn't videogames, what do you think is causing it? Maybe you should actually try to fix your grades so she won't need to blame anything for anything.
If your sister is getting almost as bad grades but isn't losing privileges, I see a valid point there. Otherwise, just try out different things to improve your grade and I bet she'll stop bugging you. |

Same happened to me when I was a little younger than you are now. There's really no way around it; you have to buckle down and work. I'm an A student now(for the most part at least).

Learn to deal with it, and then in a few years when you move out it won't matter.

Re: My Mom Blames Everything on Videogames
Stop sucking in school and you'll get to play your precious WoW again. I'm on the computer/playing DDR for at least four, even up to six hours a night and I have straight As [well, one bull A-, but I won't even get into that.]
study = good grades = video games |

Back in the day I got bad grades from too much Runescape. But that was back in the day. Now I'm a straight A student, except for a B.

Re: My Mom Blames Everything on Videogames
Well, I notice that your priorities are ALL out of place. Seeing that WoW is what your parents are blaming your poor grades on, your priority is WoW. No, stop this now, sign up for your favorite sport ASAP. Your parents are much less likely to ground you from keeping fit, and WoW will not give you any chance at all of getting a scholarship. You obviously don't get tired of WoW, seeing that it consumes no energy, but sports will completely drain you, so when you're all worn out and tired, you can do your school work with no distractions.

Re: My Mom Blames Everything on Videogames
firstly I'm in an all upper academic school...We do acedemic courses with extra stuff thrown in...secondly when i have been cut off from everything my grades have been the same. My priorities are are School-->job-->things that need doing--> fun...I'm not a wow addict I had it for 2 months and im only lv 33
The marks bringing my mark down are Math, Computers, and Civics. Civics is bad because my textbook is lost and I have to much of a **** memory to remember where it would ever be and I can't get a new one through the school. Math, The teachers nice but we get no handouts or notes...just strait out of the textbook and I have above class average (55) which is proof that she sucks ass as she doesn't teach us. Exactly same things in computers which I ussually own but my teacher had his like 8th kid so I don't blame him lol. I am improving in that though as we're done the art part (I can't do any art) so that will shoot up. My other courses arn't spectacular but I am trying to pull them up. Also I'm not missing my "precious WoW" i just hate having my freedoms taken away |

Re: My Mom Blames Everything on Videogames
So does everybody else.
I hated my life a few years back, and then I took charge, stopped allowing people to control me, and now I have a life and can do anything I want. Only you can pull yourself out of that endless whirlwind of hell where you have no control over anything in your life. |

Re: My Mom Blames Everything on Videogames
A quick question: How can I juggle band, club soccer, and school at the same time? Because I get my butt in gear and pass. If you have such a poor teacher, either get help from your parents or stay after school and ask for help then.

Parents blame everything on video games because most kids in the United States play 'Rated M' games.

About the best thing I can think of is to ask your mom for your liberties back, and prove that it doesn't affect your grades by boosting them up.
