My First Cell Phone. No, its true!
You see, I'm trying to get a cell phone for the first time and...yes, I know, I'm 20 years old and the majority of the population of the world get cells when they're 15 or younger. But I'm just getting into it and now I'm looking for a simple phone plan. One that covers talking anytime...no fancy stuff like email or internet access or texting...ok, maybe texting.
But I need a simple phone plan (and a simple phone) with no touch screen cause those "poke" screens scare me. And I dunno where to start. But I know T-Mobile is not a plan I want. That's something. So if anyone with a cell phone plan is reading this (meaning teh whole world), please give me a hand here. And no, not your steppin hand! Your other one!

Verizon or AT&T. At Verizon you can get a super simple phone for free when you open your account so that's always nice. Just a basic flip phone never hurt anyone and they tend to last a lot longer than the newer high tech ones.

Okay, seriously. I'm with Rubin on this.
edit: ichliebekase's right, super simple phones last a lot longer. I had an old Nokia back in 2006 when I was a lot clumsier with things. Used to drop it a lot, and it still lived.

Yeah get something really cheap. Try to get "pay monthly" plans, with no extra charges. They piss all over you.

Re: My First Cell Phone. No, its true!
I'm actually with Master Hak on this one; the only phone i've really owned is a Motorola T720, which is old as hell but works like a charm.
On my birthday this year, I got a new phone, an LG Shine, but the LCD screen died just a month and a half later. Luckily I kept old faithful, so I still had a phone. Just today though, i had to commence reconstructive surgery on the battery protective cover, because the tape used to repair an old injury was getting old, brittle and simply wearing off. I accidentally dropped this phone from the top bunk of a bed, causing an interior component of the cover which keeps the cover on the phone to break off. Another reason why I needed to do this operation was becasue every time I got a text message, the phone vibrates (rather violently may I add) to the point where it was capable of knocking the sim card inside loose, partly because of the loosened cover. However, from a purely visible point of view, the phone looks pretty good. I havn't decided whether I wanted to retape the phone yet or leave it in it's current condition, but this is how it currently looks; If you ask me, stick with the old phone models as long as you possibly can; this guy has served me for many years, and has taken several beatings and drops; the phone battery still lasts approximately 5 days before it needs a recharge.

I've never had a phone either, my parents said that I could get my own when I turn 18. I'm gonna try and convince them to get me one though, it seems like a necessity nowadays, like if something happens at school, ect.
Though all my friends have AT&T, so I'd assume that my friends are rich or the company has good deals. |

What's a pager? Yea, my stepdad still uses one. It's for work, though.

Re: My First Cell Phone. No, its true!
They were the big thing before cell phones:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pager Anyways, think of it as a cell phone that has only one ability: to ring. Pagers just beeped to let you know someone "beeped" you. They were the rave in the 80's or so. I don't know if you ever watched that cartoon "Hey Arnold!" back in the 90's or so, but I think Helga's father owned a pager company. Just to let you guys know, I'm talking out of knowledge, not experience. XD |
