What do you guys think of black metal?
Personally, I believe it is one of the best types of metal out there. Just considering the guitar skill required, as well as the power of the vocals.

Re: What do you guys think of black metal?
Progressive metal and pretty much every other type completely shadows over black metal. I went through a black metal phase, and it's not that great.
I prefer electronica any day as well.

Black metal tends to be repetitive. The "black" constraint restricts the music into a certain mould, which is a shame because it could be so much more.
Also BM has some really funny stuff like adding white noise on their tracks to sound more grim and necro, corpsepaint and Immortal.

I don't care what type of music it is, and how dark it's supposed to be—every song should have a melody. Take Moonlight Sonata for example.. it has got to be the most depressing song ever, yet once of the most beautiful. I want to headband to something good.

Re: What do you guys think of black metal?
loool besides the obvious like doom or sludge, black metal probably has the LEAST amount of guitar skill required for metal genres. True black metal bands go for that crappy, unrehearsed, recorded-in-the basement sound. Don't get me wrong, i have a huge collection and love it, but skill? Just cause its fast doesn't mean its hard.

Re: What do you guys think of black metal?
Tremelo picking's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. And black metal is so distorted your allowed to be sloppy cause no one can tell anyways lol.

Re: What do you guys think of black metal?
Yeah, BM used to be **** quality because no one had the money for good prod. but not it's just **** because the newer bands want to be kvlt, grim and necro.

Re: What do you guys think of black metal?
I enjoy black metal sometimes, but it is nowhere near being one of my favorites. Dimmu Borgir is probably the best black metal band I've heard, and that's just because they throw the symphony in there.
Oh, and I suppose their melodies are pretty good. |

Also, black metal is good has good artists like most other sub-genres of metal. I personally prefer progressive metal the most but I do listen to tons of artists from all forms of metal so I try not to display too much favouritism. |

i'm referring more of that tremolo picking is used extensively, which may be harder for the less experienced, as well as bands like Emperor using harmonics in I Am The Black Wizards. |
