Blinking and FFR/SM
Main question: How often/often not do you blink while playing rhythm games like FFR/SM?
Been wondering this for a while. I have a bad little habbit of non blinking at all during a song, and forgetting to blink during the song selection menu, causing my eyes to water/images become blurry, causing me to quit the song. Anyone else? |

RE: Blinking and FFR/SM
I have a bad habit of not blinking and then screaming when the song is over because my eyes are burning.

RE: Blinking and FFR/SM
I read that you need to constantly blink when using a computer screen because the radiatoin can damage your eyes. Anyway, while playing SM im afraid to blink because i dont want to miss an arrow or lose the pattern, ya know? Like i dont want to blink because im afraid ill lose my spot in a stream and end up havin to adjust. Anyway once the song is over i usually rub my eyes or whatnot. No biggy.

I blink a lot while playing. Doesn't take all that long to get used to it, just have to take a personal note of the notes onscreen at that moment and remember their rhythm.

I blink whenever I need to, I just do what Spazz does, jus memorize the next 2 or 3 notes and hit them while you blink.

I'm with Starocean and Spazz. Although sometimes I won't blink for like 30 minutes of nonstop FFR just because my eyes won't blink.

I blink unconsciously. Since I don't really tend to look everywhere on the screeen, just one spot, it's easy to analyze the situation, blink for a millisecond and continue on like nothing happened.

The biggest cause of watery eyes among computer users is a low refresh rate.
If you are using a CRT, set your refresh rate to it's maximum using THIS tool, just choose your monitor and press auto populate. The refresh rate of any Monitor/TV is the number of times that the the screen draws itself vertically (in a downward pattern). Low refresh rate is also the reason why computer monitors look wierd when filmed. The higher the refresh rate, the more frames you are seeing, and your brain thinks it's a solid image=much better for the eyes. If your brain is picking up the refreshes, it gives you major headaches. 85hz (RfPS) is my minimum, most people stupidly run at 60. Refresh rate is also an option in "graphic" in SM. [for those of you that already know this, sorry if that sounded snobby] So, what refresh rate are you running?

I must say, that helped a LOT.
I cranked SM up to 120hz and my eyes have never felt better while playing. Thanks a bundle. |

OMG you should see the monitors at my school! You can actually see the frames. It isn't the lab I usually goto so when I went there I had to ask the teacher if she noticed anything wrong. She didn't.
I got a really bad headache that day.

I blink all the time, but I never notice it, it never really bothers me, though, I don't play those crazy hardcore songs that some of you guys do.

I'm gald to see that it helped! I hope you'll spred the word on refresh rates, and save the world a couple headaches. Speaking of headaches, yes, most Schools/Industries dumb-assedly run thier CRTs at 50h/z, not knowing how much they are huring thier employees/students eyes.
Watch out though!!! If you do use refresh force, (the program mentioned in my post above) don't go too high. Older monitors fail if pushed beyond a certain point. Sharshot, just to be safe you might want to tone that down to 85 or 100. Also, using the program in my above post, you can manually set the refresh rate in other programs if you are having similar problems.

I actually noticed that. On my laptop I get like 50, but on this I get 85, my eyes hurt on the laptop.

Pretty much when my mind tells me to. Never missed a beat because of it... >_>
