Re: London 2012 Olympics
I stayed up last night to watch the opening ceremony myself as I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was! I was afraid we were going to try and trump China, but instead we did our own thing and I guess showed the best of british? Wasn't a big fan of the live music, but the tribute to the NHS, Mr Bean, James Bond, etc... all excellent! And the lighting of the main torch was damn cool.
Anyways, getting a freeview box hooked up tonight so that I can actually watch some of the sports. Not too interested in the swimming or cycling so I'm happy to miss today. What're you looking forward to seeing most? |

Re: London 2012 Olympics
Definitely the track events, especially the sprinting ones! Even though the results are somewhat obvious, it is still exciting to watch! I also plan on watching tennis as well!

Re: London 2012 Olympics
gonna watch boxing, tennis, football and athletics most likely.
mr bean/daniel craig with the queen (her first role!) was my fav part of the opening ceremonies. the fireworks ruined whatever vancouver did lmao. the whole british history thing going from bronze age to modern was brilliantly done.

Re: London 2012 Olympics
Local television is horrendous in that if you don't subscribe to cable or anything, you're stuck with watching like 10 different channels (and only 3 of them are actually showing the Olympics in bits and pieces). That said the coverage this time round is pretty good. Right now I'm staying up for the fencing; probably will try to catch some gymnastics, tennis and badminton when I can.

Re: London 2012 Olympics
Can you guys watch anything live on the BBC website? They're showing everything if you can get around any kind of non-UK block they may have?
And the sprinting isn't that one-sided. Will be interesting to see if Bolt is able to run his best, or is Blake is going to have the chance to beat him on the worlds biggest stage! |

Re: London 2012 Olympics
love olympics, only chance to watch some awesome sports. watching most of the volleyball (gonna try my best not to miss a match), track & field gets my attention field events are better to watch imo besides like the 100m, pretty much everything keeps my interest im soooo hyped
also does it bother anyone else that if michael phelps wins another medal they're calling him the greatest olympian of all time? i mean obviously he is an incredible athlete, and such a dominant force in swimming, but really what other sport has even a remote chance to win that many medals? none lol :P |

Re: London 2012 Olympics
So much hype!
I really really really want to see long jump but it's never broadcasted for some reason. Maybe because there's no Canadians in it... :c Asides from that, watching track and soccer. Quote:
I have to agree on the medals thing. He is still a great athlete nonetheless. |

This goes for everything ranging from FFR tournaments, math competitions, Olympics, etc. It's very ignorant for one to claim that someone is the best at something even though there may be a "best competitor". Last edited by iironiic; 07-28-2012 at 01:24 PM.. |

Re: London 2012 Olympics
missed the opening ceremonies I gotta find a recording online somewhere.
that's for sure! I'm interested in watching nearly all of the events. badminton, fencing... I just have no awareness of these sports 99% of the time, even though people pour so much hard work into perfecting their own skills. it's great that such tremendous athletes can get some global exposure. I'm so glad the tennis coverage is excellent where I live, haha. only in the Olympics will you see top singles players go all-out in doubles. in singles, Falla already gave Federer a scare in the first round |

Re: London 2012 Olympics
lol i've heard it at least a dozen times on NBC xD. but yea this forum needs a sports sub-forum plz. gymnastics is cool, it gets an unfortunate wrap as being 'girly' for whatever reason, but they're incredible. loving the great coverage and internet availability though

Re: London 2012 Olympics
phelps is actually the most successful olympic athlete of all time. won more gold medals (and medals in general) than any other individual at the games.
so he doesn't have much to lose here

Re: London 2012 Olympics
Getting pumped for the track cycling events. The road cycling event was interesting in contrast to Le Tour De France which ended maybe a week ago. The strategy was entirely different since there isn't the chance of winning on multiple stages; all the riders had to give it all they had in just one race. To be honest I wasn't very impressed by the circuit they took, but I suppose it met it's purpose.

Re: London 2012 Olympics
it's possible there is a woman who just happens to be much better than the rest of the women at the moment just as sometimes there are men a lot better than the other men sometimes.
that being said, a doper or cheater or whatever you want to call it coming from china is probably the most likely out of all countries. i just don't know and any speculation at this point is just speculation. |
