R^n: Shifting Paradigms
Edit: In case this isn't clear, unreleased files only. I will be selecting all the released files I want to put in the pack myself. The stepfile making and playing community has done a good job of pigeonholing itself: Files these days are centered upon speed, streams, and jump streams with little else in the mix… And it shows. As a result of this, players throw C-mods on songs that intentionally use bpm tricks and freezes as a marker of difficulty, files with rhythmic complexity are overlooked, and people can only MA songs that don't use purple or (god forbid) teal arrows. Well we can change that. The reason the community is losing interest is because they can only stand in one corner for so long before they beat the same methodology senseless and move on. That's why I am going to make a pack to change this. Now, I know most of you are immediately thinking that this is complete hypocrisy for me to be creating a pack, but I have a very sound reason: Releasing one file will not bring about change… If it did, peaches en regalia would have more than 160 downloads; however, a large flow of new files could easily grab a large enough portion of the community's attention to start this change. You see, I just don't want files that are technically proficient. There are plenty of people in the community that can do that. I want files that are above and beyond just proficient: I want innovation. I will only accept files for this pack over AIM. My AIM is 'Phonem Recursive'. I will have very, very stringent acceptance policies; however, if your file is not adequate I will only give you constructive criticism… I will not harass you for submitting a file unless it is truly terrible or you don't get the picture that I'm not accepting it as is. The deadline for submitting files will be 'when I think I have enough files.' However, I will give you a warning 2 weeks before I close submissions. As a general timeline, expect submissions to be closed some time around July or August. In the future, I will add some techniques to this post to help you in simfile making... Such as syncing songs with wavering bpms and a few guidelines of what kind of tempo changes/freezes work and which ones don't work so well. and to be updated as things move along... Re: R^n: Shifting Paradigms
Bursurk Lurk is the perfect person for this pack haha.
I can do graphics for those who need them on one condition: The file must be good. Everybody thinks their file is good once they complete it, but compare your file to some of the good files out in the public today. Would your simfile be able to compete with those? If so, ask me for graphics. I'll do the best I can. I think I have a few songs that could go into this pack, I'm not sure. I'm not even sure I want to step anything right now. I don't want to see any bemani songs. No IIDX, DDR, PIU, ITG or anything. No Sharpnel. It's probably what ap would want too. |

Also, I'm fine with people submitting without graphics. If they get accepted I can send some of the workload to you, Gamepro, so you don't have to work on bgs for files that don't get accepted. I also plan on taking about half the workload for songs with no BGs. This doesn't mean don't submit a bg at all, but if you suck at photoshop and can't find someone, we'll do it for you.

Re: R^n: Shifting Paradigms
This sounds awesome and wonderful ap. My expectations are very high already. Technicality for the win!
I hope some great simfiles-makers will start exploring more music now and find some really innovative stuff to contribute to this pack with! GL ap.

Re: R^n: Shifting Paradigms
brb getting jazz and classical musics
maybe we should get a vid of someone stepping a song that would otherwise be a nightmare to step. One thing I am annoyed at people doing is when some people step a chord, but the individual notes on the chord are off by a 64th, and they step both a 64th and a 4th. Same applies with 48ths (rarely used though) and sometimes 32nds.

Re: R^n: Shifting Paradigms
This is exciting. The files I've always enjoyed most are usually jazzy, very triplet based, and not very repetitive (if repetitive at all). Changing it up is good, and we all know that Shind Bad and Xepher knockoffs get boring after a while. Hooray for this idea. BTW, if every song in this pack ends up being like Peaches En Regalia, I'll never go back to another pack.
EDIT: Secondary colors are your friend. |

Re: R^n: Shifting Paradigms
You can do any song as long as it's technical and bpm changes (not half or double) and crazy **** like that.
Or in other words a rly gud technical song.

Re: R^n: Shifting Paradigms
It doesn't necessarly have to be supertechnical with lots of bpmchanges. It's more about being creative.
Btw, I don't have that many ideas on what to step atm. People can PM me something they want stepped I guess. Last edited by Bursurk_Lurk; 05-8-2006 at 02:47 PM.. |
