No form of mass media for 5 days
No TV, no books, no movies, no magazines, no newspapers, and most importantly no video games, no internet and no recorded music.
For 5 days. Why am I doing this? Because it is a homework assignment for my Mass Media and American Culture class. The purpose is to show how addicted people have become to the Mass Media. I start tomorrow (Wednesday). It ends on Monday morning. So, I have no idea what I am going to do for the next 5 days. When the internet or video games aren't an option for me, I usually turn to books...but now I can't even do that. I dont know how I am going to survive without music. I can still listen to my own music and a few select bands (For Great Justice, mc chris, We Say Goodbye, Courtesy Knave) since I either know them personally or know that they dont have record contracts connecting them to the Mass Media. So, what would ya'll suggest I do with my free time? I plan on cleaning (a lot), studying Japanese, and hanging out with friends...but at night, when I'm all alone, what can I do? I will tell you all how it is also. If anyone else is brave enough to do this along with me...well, you would be totally awesome. PS. Since cell phones are allowed during the project, I will still be able to use AIM. |

media is just another way of communicating. why don't you tell your teacher to force you guys to stop talking for five days and see how addicted you are to talking?
seems kind of like a dumb assignment. people like to communicate. people like to know things. hence, media. |

Now that's a hard assignment. I don't know, go somewhere. Golfing was a good idea, or any kind of sport for that matter. Card games are always good. Do homework in advanced for other classes. Studying Japanese was great idea, that could easily take up several hours a day. I don't know, count to a million :<.

I say find yourself a girl who is willing to mess around with you for a couple of days and hunker down with you, cause its gets lonely at night without the Intarweb buddy.

see how many sit ups or push ups you can do in a row. See how much you progress. Or try holding your breath for as long as you can. Pretty stupid but could be time consuming

You can't improve that much physically in 5 days unless you suck. But it's always worth doing, whether you improve noticably or not.

Weak... I went to the Boundary Waters for 11 days with absolutely no form of communication with ANYONE. I went with 5 other guys and their parents, and that's the only form of intelligent life we saw for those 11 days. We could have started World War III and I wouldn't have known anything about it until a week later.

if he really worked out a lot he would probably get good results. ie. 20 more push ups than he started out at

You should write.
Like a journal of your spiral into insanity. Or not. But I would write a lot. I'll bet you know people who would love to get a letter. |

There is a difference between Mass communication and Interpersonal communication. Mass communication (Mass media) is a process whereby professional communicators use technological devices to share messages over some distance to infulence and inform the large audiences. Interpersonal communication is face-to-face communication. NaOTa4231 has some good ideas...I might try it out. |

Try drawing. Just draw alot. That's what i do when i get really bored.
But, jesus that's hard. It's like camping except with camping there's certain things you can still do.

I like moogy's idea.
If a teacher actually demanded that of us, I'd either not do it and say I did... or drop that class. Its complete bs. But, things to do: Play poker, hang with the guys, enjoy a 48 hour sex fest, party like its 1999, go to the gym, run, sleep (ALOT), masturbation is always nice... but personally, I need stroke material (which would violate the project).

RE: Re: RE: No form of mass media for 5 days
Write cursive backwards(thin long letters) and write anything that comes to mind.
That's what I do, it makes the time go by very fast. I'm dead serious, just try it. |

Drawing, I should get back into drawing...fill up that art journal of mine. I can't write in cursive anyways forwards...let alone backwards. I dont want to lie about it because I actually want to do this. |

All I can think to say is good luck. That is going to be one tough assignment. The longest i've ever gone was about 2, maby 3 days, and that was hell.
Maby... No wait...I'm out of ideas already. |
