Forgot to mention my new computer.
Talking in my other thread "I call upon the Nerds of FFR" I forgot to mention that I had purchased another computer.
I had it custom made. Well, Synth basically told me what to get, and I just agreed with his selections. All credit goes to him for putting together this awesome machine. Specs. RE: Forgot to mention my new computer.
What the hell
You have a beast system like that, and you stick in a midrange X600? Are you insane? Throw the X800XT in there that it deserves. Also, your X2 4400+ is being bottlenecked by your RAM. Go buy another gig. |

RE: Forgot to mention my new computer.
That might slow him down having 2 sets of dual ram. If he wanted 2 gigs, he would have gone with 2 sticks of 1 gig. His ram is fine. It's not like there are multiprocess based games out there yet. o.O

RE: Forgot to mention my new computer.
Well, I actually talked over the graphics cards with synth before deciding on that one. He said that it wouldn't of made that big of a difference or something along those lines. Also with the ram, I was planning on upgrading anyway, just because I love to multi task so much. If you could explain to me why the x800xt is a way superior card, then by all means I'll have to pick one up. I plan on throwing another internal hardrvie, something like 200+ gigs. Then having an external one I can lug around to friends houses. That will probably be something like 20-50 gigs.
BTW, if anyone would like to sum up all that information into something normal people can read by all means, please do.

RE: Forgot to mention my new computer.
Most of the information is superfluous, anyways.
But yeah, X800XT or even X850XT if you want to really go top of the line, are far, far superior than the X600. The X600 is midrange at best. X600 Pro has: 8 Pixel pipes 400/600 Core/RAMDAC stock clocks 128 bit Memory bandwidth 128 Mb dedicated GDDR LAME-O X850XT has: 16 Pixel pipes 520/1.08 core/RAMDAC stock clocks 256 bit memory bandwidth 256/512 Mb dedicated GDDR3 WHAT THIS MEANS The X850 XT is like >>>>> to the X600. If I really wanted to go find benchmarks I could, but I'm too lazy right now. Feel free to find them yourself. KEEP IN MIND ATI's R520 line (X900) is being released anytime now. It was SUPPOSED to have 24 Pixel pipes and the fastest clock ever seen, but recent rumors have been circulating that this card will be released, sadly, with only 16. If you really want 24 pipes (and what is clearly the fastest card on the market right now), pick up a GeForce 7800 GTX: 24 Pixel Pipes Slightly lower core clock (430 Mhz) but a faster memclock (1.2 Ghz) Nothing else really matters. Those 24 pipes pretty much beat the hell out of anything else out there. Again, you'll have to look for benchmarks yourself or take my word for it, cause I'm too lazy to find them. Again, it's gonna set you back $500-600, so you have to wonder if it's really worth it...but if you want absolute top of the line, that's it. Quote:

RE: Forgot to mention my new computer.
I like that you just got it and already only have 7 gigs of space left on that 80 gig drive.

That's a nice processor, much better then mine. But I would have definately gotten a bigger HD, I filled up my 150gb in a month, and my friend filled a 200gb, and three 80gbs in a under a year :<. The video cards ok, but I would have probably gone for the X800 unless you were short on money. I use the radeon X800 PRO and it's never let me down .

Except the X800 Pro is comparable in price to a 6800OC, yet has four less pipes and a slower clock speed. Not a bad card by any means, but definitely one of ATI's biggest mistakes ever.

Well, I can see what you mean from a specs standpoint. But, really, does it put out that much better proformance? I mean $500-$600 is a hefty amount of money just to spend on a graphics card. I mean 5 more fps isn't worth $600.
Also, I do have 1 stick of gig ram. Im planning on installing another stick as well. I got the 80 gig because what really do you need all that space for. Most of the shit on here I don't use already. So I know you and your friend, Brainmaster, have a lot more useless shit than I. The only reason why I would go bigger, is because I like my useless shit. Im kinda like a pack-rat of things. I don't like to delete anything. But, whatever.

Brainmaster: Damn boy, you got ALOT of porn, huh...
On that issue, sadly, I'm stuck. Having a laptop and all, I have 55 gigs of space, 30 of which are taken up by MP3s. So, I have to constantly delete and d/l new porn.

Well thats ok tass. I just cleared out about 21 gigs of shit. I still have more stuff to delete, but I'll worry about that later.

I think you're good with what you have now. If you want to upgrade, do it in the future when you need to... You're plenty well off right now.

Someone doesn't know how to state computer specs. Seriously, delete about 80% of the shit you posted...I had to shift through almost everything to find the stuff that really mattered.
But when I did...OOOHHHHHH MAAAAAAAANNNNN, you lucky son of a bitch. Get another stick of ram, a 7800, and a 200 gig SATA hdd, and move all of your personal files (porn) to the 200, and your FPS in games will probably increase by at least 30. I'm serious. Your normal computing speed will go boom too.

Seriously, if you knew anything about video cards, you'd know how idiotic this conversation is. If you want the best, get a 7800. If you want low to midrange, get an X600. But you'll be hitting ~40 fps on most games with settings at medium to low, at best. EDIT: Ok, took the time to find a benchmark. It all seems pretty even, but scroll down to the bottom when they shove Doom 3 to 1600x1200 on high quality. A single 7800GTX hits the 100+ fps mark without breaking a sweat. The next card up from the X600, the X700, can't break 30 fps. So is it $600 better? Abso-freaking-lutely. Is it worth $600 of your money? Well, you'll have to decide that for yourself. http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.c...d=1822&page=13 |

well seeing as my moniter only goes up to 1280x1024, I don't have to worry about that 1600. and I play all of my games on 1280x1024 with no problem. This includes, Half life 2, Area 51, Battlefield 2 Demo, and City of Heroes. This is on max settings btw.
I haven't had the joy of getting doom3 yet, but, if I do, I won't be playing on 1600x1280. So I guess that point is void. Im not trying to argue with you about the better graphics card, or even to compare the two together. I know the 7800 is better. Im just saying for what im going to use it for and for that hefty price tag, Is it really worth it?...
