You sound like you could use the same thing I started with... the DDRMAX2 combo pack. Comes with DDRMAX2 and one of Konami's official pads. It's worked quite well for me. And it was only $60...

MAX2 is sooooo much better than MAX. i've seen just MAX2 for $40, if i remember correctly. that was at best buy, too.

OMFG...here is HVAM's dictionnary of the ABOVE post.
Resent...actually it's spelt RECENT songs meaning liscensed songs, like some of the techno ones, the captain jack stuff...etc... Made up songs...I THINK he means the konami originals, like Healing Vision (aahahaha...funny how I use this one as an example) But yeah, if you're looking for a version with songs to get you good, start with MAX2, because quite a few of the songs on MAX are considerly harder than most songs. Anyways, if you want a cheap and good quality plastic pad, go for this cheap 3rd party brand mat called 'Instinct'...sold at Toys R Us. It's only about 25 dollars, no anti slip, but nothing that a little bit of plywood and duct tape can't fix. it's kinda foamy-ish so you don't have to worry about it cracking either. That's the mat I started out before I went to the Red Octane Ignition 2.0s, which are about 50-75$ish.
