Re: 12 year old smarter than Einstein
The only time I understood what the **** he was talking about was when he started talking about his dog, then he completely lost me.

He plays basketball with friends, has a girlfriend and recently attended his first dance. He likes music -- classical, which he plays by memory on a piano, but he also plays some contemporary songs he hears on the radio. He loves sci-fi movies and the Disney Channel. He watches documentaries on the History Channel." http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...=2011103200369 ...but then he is only mildly autistic. Re: 12 year old smarter than Einstein
Why do I have this nagging feeling that his parents are going to ruin his life?

Re: 12 year old smarter than Einstein
because there is a possibility that they may use his knowledge for a personal gain. He can make more money than both of his parents most likely, so since he can't do much with the money being his age, his parents may take a small profit from it? 0_o

Re: 12 year old smarter than Einstein
It sounds to me like his parents are doing the right thing by trying to keeps his activities more diverse. Obviously that is an opinion though. Maybe someone thinks he should just spend all of his time solving mathematical problems and potentially come up with something amazing.

Re: 12 year old smarter than Einstein
I have no problem with parents giving their children all the opportunities in the world and challenging them to reach their full potential, but what's up with the staged and scripted youtube videos? I have a real problem with parents broadcasting their children's lives on the internet for their own personal gain.

Re: 12 year old smarter than Einstein
It's okay, when he grows up after not being able to live a normal childhood he can put a ferris wheel in his backyard and start inviting children over for "sleepovers".

I wouldn't be surprised if putting up the youtube vids were the kid's idea - not his parents' idea. This is pretty impressive stuff, especially some of the stuff he covers in his other youtube videos. I understand most of what he's lecturing on but it still bored the living hell out of me. I'm not too fond of math.

The big bang theory will never be disproved. There's too much evidence backing the premise. It will probably be refined, significantly, in the future, as we learn more, and maybe he can contribute to refining the theory, but certainly not disproving it. Either way, it's not like there hasn't been anyone like this kid before. There are people way beyond this kid. e.g.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terence_Tao Taught calculus at age 8, Ph.D at age 20. or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tathagat_Avatar_Tulsi Masters in Physics by age 12.

Re: 12 year old smarter than Einstein
lmfao@disproving the BBT
But seriously, it's not like I was a child prodigy or anything, but I could do calculus at the end of elementary school, started learning to read at less than a year old, could draw/spell pretty well (went crazy on the Etch-A-Sketch), etc. While I think it's definitely a cool feat to accomplish at a young age, all I can say is that stuff like basic calc really isn't that hard. The main problem is that our society tends to teach math fairly poorly and so we arrive at calculus later on than we'd otherwise be OK with. If we had a better-quality system that wasn't so geared towards the assumption of weakness rather than the assumption of strength, we'd see a lot more of these kids. What bugs me is the window shit. Smart people DO NOT DO MATH ON THE GODDAMNED WINDOWS. I don't care what they show you in "A Beautiful Mind" or "The Social Network." It's agonizing to see that shit so overplayed. |

Re: 12 year old smarter than Einstein
Also just saw his physics video. More proof that a lot of this is memorization of surface-level stuff. Sirius is actually two stars about 23 AU apart, composed of a main sequence star and a white dwarf. You usually get Type 1A Supernovae when a white dwarf accretes enough matter from a companion red giant to push the Chandrasekhar limit. Sirius A is not yet a red giant and won't be so for any time soon -- and even when it does, it won't extend far enough to allow Sirius B to leech its mass. Earth is more likely to end due to our own sun turning into a red giant (its radius will extend out to Mars or so, completely incinerating the inner three planets). Billions of years in the future, though.

Hey rubix have you seen the TED video on how math is taught in school? You might enjoy watching it
