Ah yes! I almost forgot.

I was doing rounds of IP checks and eventually landed on A s h e r in the backend. When going through all of the IPs, I noticed that one had landed on Micah_. So, I dug a bit deeper and started going through gameplays and eventually found out that they used the same settings (same keys, same frame rate, same speed mod, same noteskin, and same visual elements being hidden and on for the most part).

At this point, I approached them for video proof, letting them know that I found all of these same settings, but I deliberately left one thing out when sending the PM and I'll explain it later. Anyway, Micah_ was extremely rude upon seeing the PM and pretty much went on to accuse me of "how I used to be and how much I am changing". A s h e r was not complaining so much as much as wondering what he could do to get a video if he didn't have a camera.

In the midst of A s h e r making his request, he said that Micah_ was a roommate and didn't really care to do much of anything. At this point, I disqualified them and completely disregarded the necessity for video proof because:

a.) matching IPs
b.) same settings
c.) present in two different divisions in addition to account sharing
d.) birthday associated with both accounts was the same upon registration, which was the thing I left out to see if they would try to play the whole "we're two different people thing" rather than simply admitting guilt.

So yeah, they're done.

a) makes sense if they are roommates
b) makes sense if one guy taught the other how to play
c) this makes their tournament play highly suspicious, but it's not concrete proof of cheating.
d) this could be a standard birthday if you are too lazy to put in your real birthday

I mean they are highly suspicious, but this isn't really concrete proof.

It's still ground for DQ because the higher division could easily hop on the other computer and destroy the lower division, which wouldn't be fair to anyone, and the other reasons are just as solid.

It's more than enough proof. Same IP is not a big deal; there are a number of people in the tournament playing on the same IP -- however, the odds of a person using the same exact -everything- when reaching any sort of level beyond D1 is very unlikely, and the odds of them having the same exact birth month, day, and year for a day that is completely arbitrary is extremely unlikely given the whole "roommate" claim. Their lack of differentiation is not my fault.

To add a bit more to this, tournament announcements were done in mid September. There were no plays from early 2013, to about mid September of 2014 (when the announcement of the tournament starting soon had come up) on the A s h e r account.

A, no problem, B, no problem. C, I do see the problem, but providing video evidence of two people playing FFR should solve the problem. I don't understand how A s h e r thought he could get away with the whole "I don't have a camera" argument. It's 2014. The majority of cell phones in circulation today have a built in camera function that allows you to record video. I can easily take out my iPhone 4 to legitimately show that I am a real person and a bonafide D2 player. Yes, the quality would be extremely crappy for YouTube, but if the point was to provide evidence, quality shouldn't be an issue.

Let's say the two players in question do provide video evidence. AJ's next move would probably be to question the whole birthday angle. In this case, to be fully in the clear, the two players would both have to provide photo-scans of government-issued photo IDs that show their birthday. They're toast if their birthdays don't match, as it would raise the issue of the D3 player hiring someone to stand in as the D2 player.

So in short, even with the assumption that the two players were at least born in the same year, there was a 99.73% chance that they couldn't get past the whole birthday deal. Thus, it would be at least 99.73% likely that this was a cheating attempt in motion.

Hope you guys are enjoying the file while you're at it
I thought the jump from 50 to 52 was a bit low... but now it makes sense because I think the file is more difficult than a 52. It seems like more than a few people might agree with me, too.

It's tough, but definitely enjoyable. Personally, I find the first hundred or so arrows a bit awkward to hit but the rest isn't so weird. Just easy to miss or drop a good on...

It's still a bit early.

AAA or die situation is pretty common in D7, because it's hard to find a balance with flooding the game with a ton of really hard files and making the tournament challenging in the long run.

At the end of the day, there will be extremely tight cutoffs the entire tournament for D7. I've done my best this year to get a good balance of extremely hard files while not having to completely destroy the game and flood people with files they have to just mash through hopelessly.

Part of me almost wonders if it would be good to have a separate level ranks list for super hard files so that it doesn't feel like there's a complete flooding of the game with regards to level ranks, but eh, what are you going to do?

An alternative that's been suggested before is to have the D7 files be the same as the D6 files up to something like Round 4 so that way a few files could be saved for other divisions in the later rounds instead of being incinerated by D7 in a few minutes. Then as the D7 songs get much harder, they could be special tournament tokens rather than being public (this fits under your separate level ranks list for super hard files idea).

D7 isn't the only division that plays this game and it is unfair to flood files that high frequently.

oh good lord, this file givin me some serious mind blocks. definitely a hard one hi19 T.T i've played plenty of 60's that are faster, but this one is so awkward that it's very tricky and more difficult in a strange way... it does not help AT ALL that one of the background noises towards the beginning of the song sounds like someone is calling my name. creeps me out every time.
