If you're to just go around and criticize what they do instead of HOW they do/did it, then you fail. As I said before, no art form is > any other art form. But its all relative, you make a crappy sig, GFXers will tell you its crappy. You make a crappy digital painting, people will tell you about it. Except HERE, people will tell you to stop making art altogether. Which makes this place a sh!tty graphics community :] simple as that.

When you work with larger resolutions you have so much space that you actually have to have a scheme, an idea, and a cohesive notion of space to order all of the gestalts of the image. You learn how to actually structure pieces rather than take a background and throw on a few blurs until it looks pretty, because now you are no longer concerned with just micro features, but also macro structures which dictate much of the flow and aesthetics of an image that is completely nonexistant at small resolutions.

First rule for the main character you're gonna use: find as high resolution versions as you can. Gordon looks kinda blurry there, because the image you grabbed wasn't large enough.

It seems kinda... plain? It could use some more stuff goin on in the background. For now, you don't need to worry about all kinds of crazy, detailed lines.. just practice up some applying layer after layer of images and textures. Also, if you're plannin' on using it as your siggy, your name should be on it somewhere... (dunno if that was your intention).

For a first try, def headed in the right direction. Just keep trying to model after other really good sigs, and each time you'll get a bit better.

P.S Ignore all the people who think their pro-gosu or something just because they've been photo-editing for a long time... everyone has to start somewhere, and slamming them down with flames isn't going to help anyone improve.
