Default American Psycho

Anyone else read this interesting work? Much different than the movie.

At times the vividness of the writing was getting to me and I was actually feeling myself cringing as I read. Definitely the most disgusting thing I've ever read-- not because of the violence, but because of the attitude towards it I suppose. And the blood fetish aspect is a bit frightening. But the most frightening thing is that you get used to it when reading (that is, you look at it in a way that just seems acceptable and enjoyable), which can't be a good thing.

Very different. Now I need to return some video tapes.

Yep, it's an excellent book. The satire of 80's yuppie culture is a bit more obvious in the book, and I think much of it was lost in the movie (even though I love the movie, too).

Yeah, the book just provided so much more of a connecting experience with the entire setting. Not to mention you really get into Bateman's head with it. Christian Bale did an excellent job in the film-- I thought he had that psychopathic portrayal on the outside that you'd expect to see from Bateman's character.

But yeah, like most book/movie transitions, book was much better but like you said, still a great film.

I don't see what's inappropriate about that. I'm not spamming, I just have topics to post ;c go away.

PS: I actually learned some really good formal wear advice from this book. Bateman knows his stuff.

Actually, even fashion is satirized in the book. The whole point is that Bateman doesn't know what he's talking about. He mixes brands that are normally seen as fashion no-nos and various functions of fashion etiquette are intentionally incorrect (such as how to wear a tie-bar, etc).

Ellis is a tremendous author, considering he was approached for publication while still in college. I haven't read a book of his that I disliked entirely, only mostly, but that's kind of the point.

I've been meaning to purchase this book as I was suggested it a while ago... I've just been putting it off really though. I shall buy it the next time I get the chance!

I've actually used "I have to return some video tapes." as a joke in certain situations. They all thought I was serious.

This morning on the Patty Winters Show they talked about why Mechablob should stop bumming around and buy this fantastic book.

I recommend reading more of Bret Easton Ellis if this is the only one you have read by him.
