Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
I can see exactly how to want to do this, but I don't know the ways to expedite the process, and would have to brute force it the whole way through, and I'm already lost patience for it. *grin*

Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
Nobody has been correct yet.
To everyone: Either your logic is incorrect, or you're not being efficient enough. |

Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
Is it 6 hours?
In pure mathematical terms, if you switch between Emerald and Fractal riding the bike instantaneously for the entire duration of the trip, then everyone is going 5mph the entire trip, meaning they arrive in 6 hours. Of course, if you're looking for something that can actually be done in real life, then that isn't possible. But let me bounce some ideas off. Since Tass will always be going as fast or faster than the other two regardless of who has the bike, and the only thing that matters is the time the slowest person gets there, isn't Tass irrelevant? He can never be the last person to arrive, therefore giving him the bike at any point makes it so that the other two only arrive later, lengthening the overall time. Assuming that's correct, you can completely eliminate Tass from your solutions, as he'll be walking the entire time anyway. |

Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
Lol, I just got 7 hours 40 minutes.
@Relambrien: Please do not give away ways to do this probelm. It makes it less fun when people can skip steps.

Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
...if it was only two 3mph guys..so one would go half way at 5mph then walk the rest for a total of 8 hours...
with tass in it it makes my mind hurt |

Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
Tass should ride the bike, and have his little minions on the frontal pedals (what do you call those?) and they will get there in 2 hours? :P lol
EDIT: I didn't say anything about tass ferrying because I thought that wasn't allowed in this situation. Then again, it would be really easy if it wasn't. anyways... PS: sorry if you don't like the color, I just wanted to see if the color thing can be an eye catcher, so you'd read the notice. Last edited by humphoboextreme; 08-4-2008 at 08:25 PM.. |

Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
It seems to me that given how fast Tass goes on the bike, what you want to do is have fractal and emerald switch off walking/riding by having Tass ferry the bike back and forth, since once he gives someone the bike, he moves at the same pace they do while walking.

Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
Relambrien: Creative, but not every interval of infinity is of the same length. You're not taking into account infinitesimal time taken to catch up. You're still not going to do it efficiently.

Also, to clarify based on dev's point: can a person move backwards? I've seen a riddle similar to this one (not the "three people need to cross a river and only have one boat" riddle), and it included a "cannot go backward" clause, so I figured that this one, of the same vein, would be the same. If it's not the same, and a person can go backward, then my previous point about tass being irrelevant is incorrect. |

Best answer for now is 7.714285714 h. But not the best for Rubix.

Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
Well, if Tass uses the bike and the other 2 changes their jobs to "Magicians", they can just Teleport there, durr.

Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
Nice signature, SoldierGuy.
It's just a little over the appropriate signature size. You might want to re-size it even though you are probably a troll.

Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
I get 7.6 hours, no matter how many times I have Tass ferry it.

Personally, I get 7,8h now once I corrected my mistake.
EDIT: Scratch that. Made a mistake while correcting another. This is getting me pumped. I think I will stop for a while to cool down. Last edited by emerald000; 08-4-2008 at 08:35 PM.. |

Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
If I can get 7.6 hours without Tass ferrying, I think there's something wrong with that answer or my answer. I'll try to see what can Tass do to make it faster.
Edit: I feel like I'm gonna end up with irrational numbers by the end of it...

Re: MrRubix's Riddle Thread
Initially I had thought 7.3 but I made an error. I can at least use the excuse of not using a calculator XD
My new answer is 7.6
