Linux Anyone?
I have been using Windows for about 7 years now. As everyone knows it is a buggy OS. I myself have kept windows only because most applications worked with it. I tried to keep with apple because it is better (to me). Now my friend told me about Linux. I thought it was a great idea. In the past two months, I have got around twenty CD's.
Anyway, I know that most of you here use Windows; but I want to know who uses Linux. Wether or not it is a live CD. So if you want to please post what Linux OS you use. You can also post if you have Unix, or FreeBSD too. I myself use Kubuntu 5.10, and Fedora Cora 1. I am thinking about installing Gentoo. I like the KDE enviroment alot better. Oh yeah and I still have my windows OS on my PC. |

I'm sure it's a great OS and all, but I have ornithophobia. Sorry we couldn't work something out.

RE: Linux Anyone?
I have Windows XP on my desktop and Ubutunu 5.10 on my lappy (The laptop is basically never used and is old). I need Windows for some things such as programming (Visual Studio, Flash, Dreamweaver) and gaming.
I think Linux is probably the better OS, but currently its not mainstream... So yea, thats why I have both. If there was a great C/C++/C# IDE (Like Visual Studio) for Linux, I would probably have installed Ubuntu on all my systems right now. -Matt |

RE: Linux Anyone?
I mean you can always get an emulator for your Linux system. But it doesnt always work too well. And especially for applications like Dreamweaver and Visual studio. But for gaming there is always the Cedega emulator.

RE: Linux Anyone?
Actually it isn't. Linux is fairly easy to install. Something like Xandros is an OS that would be good for beginners because it is WAY too easy to install.

RE: Linux Anyone?
I've been thinking about trying Linux but I've never really learned anything about it. I might google it later...

My machine is a dual boot XP/Mandrake, although I rarely use the linux side of things.

RE: Linux Anyone?
Distro Watch has a list of Linuxes. It has a rating from 1 to 100 by which one gets the most downloads. Usually Ubuntu, Debain, and Fedora are on top. It is a good place to find the right Linux.

RE: Re: Linux Anyone?
I use Fedora Core 4 as my main operating system. In the past I've used some other Red Hat OS's, FreeBSD, Mandrake, and I've made some attempts at installing Gentoo (which I am going to sit down one day and install it correctly ). Oh, and no operating system is completely bug free, and, as much as I regret saying this, Linux is no exception.
One of the nice things about Linux is that not many people write viruses or spyware for Linux.
