Re: Possible FFR Convention/Meet-up
I'll be driving by then so anywhere I could try and make it, especially if it's during the summer. I'll be in Florida this summer so hopefully it's in the south...

Re: Possible FFR Convention/Meet-up
Nerds meeting other nerds yay!!! Chicago is about 5 hours closer to me so I guess that gets my vote.

I'd go if it was in the central time zone.

Re: Possible FFR Convention/Meet-up
sorry if I come across as an ass here, but:
to those of you who are like "you should have it in (yada) city omfg everyone else is far away bad placement" - coordinate your own meetup. Hammy is the one putting everything together, and he's got his locations set out, and you guys butting in with where you "think" it should be is rude considering he's the one spending time trying to get things together. Choose your place, coordinate a meet-up for your own venue, or don't go at all. It's really that simple. Now. There's a few of you who are saying that Chicago is a very dangerous city. I will assure you this from the 18 years that I lived there: there are dangerous areas around the city, but they will be completely obvious to you. They will be heavily boarded up, very industrial looking - etc. It will look as intimidating as it feels. There are other parts of the city that are very nice and are well worth the visit. Travel is very easy once you get there as well. Another thing to note: ACen 2011 happens in May, in Rosemont, IL. It's very close to Chicago and is extremely easy to get to when you find the CTA Blue Line - it's a nearly straight shot to the convention center. |

Re: Possible FFR Convention/Meet-up
TC_Halogen: I perfectly fine with both locations, they both are relatively accessible from most areas of the country. I was just wondering if they where there any other options...

Re: Possible FFR Convention/Meet-up
Both St. Louis and Chicago are in the central time zone.

And thanks Halogen for the statement. It was getting annoying seeing all of those posts. Sorry that this can't work out easily for everybody. I'm giving six months for planning so there's at least some potential for the non-central folks to make it. Otherwise there's not much I can do to accommodate everybody. At this rate it looks like this will end up in Chicago. Around the first week of January (probably right after New Years) we'll settle on whatever option has the most votes and then we'll move on to specific dates. As I said in the first post it'll be late June or early July, so I had in mind either June 24th and the 25th or July 1st and the 2nd. If the St. Louis convention idea takes the lead then we'd use the dates for the anime convention of course. Anyways, just giving you guys a heads up on the next step. Re: Possible FFR Convention/Meet-up
If I don't go down to Florida for the summer, St. Louis and Chicago will be less that 7 hours both for me, so maybe I can work some things out by then...

Re: Possible FFR Convention/Meet-up
Just cleaned up a lot of posts. Please stay on topic. If you want to coordinate your own meetup, do it in a different thread.
EDIT: thread title edited to allay further confusion. EDIT again: I'd go wherever if I'm free. I think I'd prefer flying in since I don't know if I trust my car anymore on these long trips. I can rent a car if that's necessary, and I imagine it will be. EDIT the third: Actually the thought of having an FFR van is really entertaining. Maybe I'll do that so I can drive around a whole bunch of y'all haha.

Re: Possible FFR Convention/Meet-up
That'd be pretty fun. xD I know Flipsta was considering driving in and would offer rides if he does. Eurostud said him and Danceguy could make the drive if the convention is in Chicago and if they aren't busy. I'll have to get them to post in this thread to clarify. The FFR van would be nice since we wouldn't have to wait on anybody driving in though. 8)

Re: Possible Midwest FFR Convention/Meet-up
I'm in IL, but right next to STL. Obviously I'm voting there. Depending on my job/college/and trip to CO to visit my dad, I might not be around to do it. I was reading hoping it wasn't going to say end of June haha. But that's okay. I will try to get more info as to how available I will be when the date rolls around.

Re: Possible Midwest FFR Convention/Meet-up
I've gone to a gigantic 200 plus person meetup in Chicago before, for parkour
We crammed 20 people into a two room apartment and I had to sleep on the kitchen table, plus it was in a shady place. As long as you don't go anywhere alone you should be fine, and like Halogen said, the NICE places are the tourist places, which is most likely where we'll be. I've been there dozens of times as well, since I only live around 3 hours away. Distance-wise, Chicago is perfect for me as well as Peter (danceguy) and Mick (ickalanda). The only problem for me is that I'm traveling to Japan for 3 weeks in either June or July, but the exact date is still undetermined. So hopefully it will be a different time frame so I can go too

Re: Possible Midwest FFR Convention/Meet-up
Alright so I decided that on January 2nd I'll start taking votes on dates. I'll try to get a mod to change the poll when the time comes. (Or I'll keep track in the first post. I'm fine with either.)
Thanks for all of the votes so far! |

I would love to go, but unfortunately I wouldn't be able to pay for the trip. Maybe if I win some money by then haha.

A new poll on dates is up now. There's June 24th and 25th or July 1st and 2nd. Vote for whatever works best for you or both of them if they both work. At this point I'll also start keeping track of people who will plan on attending and those who may be able to attend. Post if you are able to or may be able to make it depending on the dates mentioned above and I'll add you to the appropriate list. I have a few names on the lists from what I've gathered from my random thought before. If your name is on a list and your stance has changed, please let me know. |
