Exactly same here. I mean I completely get if someone wants to do well in school for an upcoming semester or something along those lines but saying "I'm gonna lose weight and workout" is completely unacceptable if you have to wait for New Years to do that.

side note (not directed at anyone on this site) but waiting for the new year to make positive changes in your life (that could have been done prior) has always agitated me. I'm all for people working towards a happy/successful lifestyle for themselves but why wait? If people did earlier you'd have that much of a head start in the right direction.
I use it as a kind of 'phase system', as in, this year I'm going to work on this, this year I'm going to work on that. I can't change myself in one step, that would be amazing but impractical. It's the small things you have to change bit by bit. Using a fresh year to measure the start of a new phase is the easiest way to remember when you started. Sure using a date like the 4th of July would work, but there's a certain feeling people get when they're doing something alone. Being part of a bandwagon does help people get over it, even if most people don't follow through with their resolutions.

edit; and like anything, if you don't actually want to do it, you're not going to do it. Plain and simple. That's why it's probably better to stick to 2-3 of these lol

As for me, I plan on keeping constant reminders to myself of what my resolutions were, and keeping tabs on my progress. Last year it didn't work, but the year before that I was really proud of how much I worked. The process seems a bit hit and miss, but when it hits, it's incredible.

You might as well argue the rationale of celebrating the New Year altogether. It's a common Western tradition to set goals upon the start of a new year. So what? I highly doubt an obese person uses the logic of waiting around until the next year comes around to decide to lose weight...that's ridiculous. People are merely listing things they would like to achieve and there's no harm in it. Denigrating someone for participating in a harmless tradition is egotistical.

To a lot of people a new year is like a fresh start, doesn't necessarily mean they're lazy. It's a mindset that people have and usually helps them to feel more motivated if they treat a new year like a new beginning.

I personally don't follow this because I just keep making small steps towards goals, but it can be nice thinking "alright a new year is starting lets try to accomplish x before the year is up." I don't really have a major goal for the end of the year this time around though. Still have about a year and a half left in college. So this year is just going to be about maintaining everything I've been working towards (Good grades, improving health, paying off debts, building up a savings, etc.).

The sugar you find in 100% juice is different than the sugars in things like soda. There's really nothing wrong with a glass of apple juice a day.

Lol you're looking way too far into what I said. I get there is no harm in listing things one would like to achieve to make for a better lifestyle. My issue is it makes you (not you personally) look lazy and look like a liar (to oneself) when you say all these great things you plan on doing then after a week or two you go back to your "old life" that you wanted to change so bad.

Those are good goals and worthy of making into resolutions. I'm not against people making resolutions but again, when they don't actually follow through it's basically them lying to both themselves and the people who they associate with. And I get that the beginning of a new year can be viewed as a new beginning but I personally know people, who during summer, said they wanted to start working out and had all the time in the world to do it, yet they stopped trying and said they'll wait until new years....that's 100% laziness and that's the kind of stuff I'm talking about.

To continue to get fit. I'm like 2 weeks into this now and i'm feeling great. I've lost a bunch of weight and gained a little muscle. I haven't eaten or drank unhealthy stuff at all the entire time and i don't feel like i need to. I have really good self control now and i honestly can say that i will follow through with my resolution this year.

People's lives change and fluctuate a lot. Something they may have been doing could be interrupted by life events. You never know what a person has been through and shouldn't be quick to judge. Are there lazy people out there? Of course, but there's also a lot of people out there that probably have problems you're completely unaware of that could change their course significantly.

Like for me unfortunately I'm one of those people that pregnancy isn't kind to in terms of weight. I used to be a pretty thin person (I wasn't like rail skinny, but I was thin enough for my build) but since my two pregnancies I've gained a LOT of weight. I've tried losing it and it's been a losing battle. It's possible that there might be hormonal imbalances causing me issues from the pregnancies but I can't get to a doctor right now to get the testing done.

It's a horrible feeling too because people are always judging you, they speculate that you're just lazy or that you eat a lot when that's not always the case for some. Most people can't understand that there could be underlying issues because they've never had to deal with that before.

tl:dr we're all human, shit happens sometimes that changes our course of action and/or our mindsets.

Refer to the example I used in the last post about someone I know personally. It's those types of people my argument is directed towards, not you or others that may have certain circumstances come up in life. I get that. But if someone makes a resolution and doesn't have anything to interfere with that, there's no reason other than laziness as to why they should stop if they haven't reached their goal already.

My resolution is to do good in school, and make a change in my life.

Recently I've been feeling down, feeling a bit abandoned by certain people, betrayal and shit. Drama comes into a teenager's life and you know that it's probably stupid but still, these sadder moments in life are telling me that I need to fix what I do.
