Re: Change log
Not to many people are going to be very pleased that they have to sit here and rack their brains off trying to figure out how to set it up and get it working.
It just couldn't be simple could it? No easy solution at all? Dumb. I agree with Plan. Should of made it easy =/ EDIT: I don't mean to knock the hard work, aperson. It's just a little frustrating for me, and I'm sure others as well, who have been waiting for profile chat to get fixed, and once it is fixed, still can't get it working. Is there any other possible solution to it? To make it easier to access?

Re: Change log
It worked for me before FFR was down and have have not messed with my settings on any part of my computer so there should be no reason why it shouldnt work.

Re: Change log
so i had the same prob, go to any computer of yours that is connected to the router (id recommend one that is connected via an Ethernet port, many routers require a restart after you tweek them and that will knock you offline) on the computer open a browser and go into the router Control panel, usually accessable by typing in your IP address, from there you can edit ports on the routers firewall, if you are at a school, your SOL. good luck and see you there

Re: Change log
It depends on the software you have installed. If you're using an antivirus client, that may be the problem as well. The problem is that FFR's ProChat is using those ports to communicate with your computer, and those are generally common ports to use. The fact that they are not working is that they are being blocked by something on your end. While I'm not sure why we have to use these ports, I'm not certain. Rest assured, this whole thing will be better once MP and Vidchat come back. Just hang in there. Aperson's doing a lot of credible work around here, as well as TwilightPrincess and the others.

Re: Change log
ok, I'm on windows 7, someone please SS me this port because saying its 8080 and TCP and whatnot isnt helping. Or at least make a decent visual process on how to open these things.

Bottom line. Something HAD to have been changed. It shouldn't be this complicated and wishy-washy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt? Not everyone is going to be able to switch all their firewall settings around and their router settings around just so they can access profile chat. This is ridiculous.

Re: Change log
Of course things are going to be changed. All of these services are being restored on different servers/settings in comparison to where they used to be. Rather than being extremely angry, you could try telling the devs what you have on your computer and/or the software/hardware you're using so they can troubleshoot your problems.
As of now, I think PC is down for everyone. |

Re: Change log
I'm not angry, I'm just wondering what's going on and would like to hear more than a 1 line response from an admin.

Re: Change log
Well, they've given a temporary solution to accommodate for the new settings, with instructions on how to fix the problems. There's not too much more to be done.

Re: Change log
We're doing our best to make things work for everyone. Fact of the matter is, we cannot predict the settings on your particular network. 8080 and 8082 are very standard ports for sending tcp connections for internet applications. If it is not working for you, try some of the suggestions in this thread. If we try a different port, it might work for you, and break it for everyone else.
I don't know that much about the inner workings of profile chat, but please know that we are trying our best to improve the experience for everyone. Please be patient.

Then how about you shut the f*ck up and service my nuts. Sorry I can't be at my computer 24/7 to answer all your nagging, I only get about 3 hours a night to work on the site and most of that has been spent on MP recently. I'll look into changing the server configuration to run off of only 8080 later, since more places have that port open, but frankly, I have other stuff I'd rather work on right now, and I'd rather not make any changes at this level of the server without consulting Synth first. Our Multiplayer gateway that ProChat uses is also having some issues with the Java environment it's running in. To say that the errors it throws are mysterious would be an understatement, but they might be causing connection problems as well. I plan on delving into them after MP is set up, and that might fix things for you then.

Re: Change log
Hey if someone wants to list all of their specs and work through troubleshooting the error with me, I'd be more than happy to do it with a smile. If they want to idly nag at me without doing anything useful, then they aren't going to get a very pleasant response from me. This site isn't a business any more, I'm not here to make you smile I'm here to fix things and get the site up and running so we can make this place the fantastic community it was once again.

Re: Change log
itt lets change the server configuration so that a few incompetent people can access profie chat. make it easy?? it is easy. if you can open and close a port you shouldn't have any issues. set everything to default and work from there. firewalls, ports, etc. try another browser.

Re: Change log
In my honest opinion, while he doesn't have the right to come across the way he did, he has every right to express at least a little bit of frustration when the problem isn't easily solvable, yet people are complaining as if it were a 2 minute fix.

Re: Change log
Are you kidding? It's a great way to come across. People that don't provide me useful information to solve stuff are now afraid to talk to me, and people with legitimate bugs that provide me help get support. Win/win imo
If you want a good example of the proper way to send your complaints to me. Go back and look at Wargasm's issue w/ reverting to rank 2600. That was a legit problem, he gave me tons of useful troubleshooting, he worked with me while I logged on to his account to recreate the error, and I got it solved for him and everyone else that used a siggy with more than 2^31 grandtotal points. If you got a problem and address me like that, I'll treat you like sunshine the whole way. Also this is the internet, toughen up. Everyone on the internet is a jerk & I am the alpha jerk.

Hey, whatever works.
Also - is profile chat down for everyone? Just wondering since I haven't been able to access it the whole day. |

Re: Change log
I can't check since I don't have flash installed here, but it seems to bug out after being up for about 12 hours. I just restarted it, let me know if you can log in now.
