Snagged this yesterday. Still holding onto the abs as I rise in weight. Hopefully I can keep this up.

Re: The Fitness Thread
At some point here soon I am upgrading the apt and building an in-house gym (namely just buying a power rack + bench + bar + weights) so I can do barbell exercises to my heart's content in private.
As for cardio -- I'll probably be lame and resort to DDR (namely the Omega pad + Stepmania) Last edited by Reincarnate; 10-17-2013 at 05:12 PM.. |

What does your typical diet look like? I'd start tracking your caloric intake and try to reduce it to 2000 calories per day. If you're feeling hungry (which is probably going to be a problem for you =/ ), focus on more whole foods, esp. fruits+vegetables. Get protein sources from dry, whole meats to help fill you up (chicken breast, turkey breast, lean beef /steak). Cut liquid calories beyond some milk as most liquid calories have little satiety value. That should put you on track for weight loss in and of itself. From there, you can develop an exercise program but what are you interested in doing? I'm an expert in weight training but you might have other ideas in mind. Though, at a bare minimum I recommend some form of resistance training while dieting to maintain muscle mass.

Re: The Fitness Thread
In June I was up to 171, I ran a 5k in 21 minutes, was doing 90 sit ups at a 45 degree angle.
Fell into a depression, dropped all the way to 143 because I lose appetite entirely. I'm back to a 25 minute 5k, I just weighed in at 151. Strength is still the same (125 military press, 35x10 curls). Glad things are returning to normal. I've been eating like a beast lately. |

Re: The Fitness Thread
it's pretty shit, lots of fast food. some home cooked meals like pastas/meats but yeah not a whole lot of fruit or vegetables, but i'm taking initiative now to improve it. the main challenge is not overeating though.

Re: The Fitness Thread
Take my word for it that either mountain biking or just plain running is WAY more rewarding than DDR will ever be. Running a 5k is way more of an experience than passing max300 will ever be

If you don't like pen + paper or a word document, there are some apps people often use like myfitnesspal that are apparently good for recording caloric intake.

Re: The Fitness Thread
Progress picture. Weighed in yesterday at 156. 8lbs heavier than when I started my stricter diet. Seeing incredible strength gains (partially due to creatine monohydrate), which is motivating me to continue with my current diet.

Re: The Fitness Thread
Great job Wolf, those are amazing results!
Starters tips to beginning fitness: -As a note for people very afraid of being judged by your appearance, focusing on positives will help your motivation. Confront people (peacefully) who give you negative energy and if they still don't stop, block them out of your life. Most importantly if you are negative to yourself try saying out loud "I love myself" often every day. You may feel dumb at first but it really works. Make sure to get enough hugs too. If the bullet point mentioned above doesn't apply to you start here: If you are in a bad eating pattern, first you have to recognize you have been in one and that it's bad for you. And then you can focus on trying to correct that because that's the most important part of getting in shape and being healthy. For people who are out of shape and looking to get started I think it's important to make realistic short term goals rather than try to rush it. No matter how out of shape you are these guidelines apply to the vast majority of people. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm 6'2" and have steadily gained unhealthy fat for like 2 and a half years from like 155 pounds and am now up to 190 due to bad diet and not enough exercise. I can feel when I jog around the block I get out of breath quickly and it makes me sad. Being 22 it seems fucking weird because this is when I should be the most fit in my life. So I'm going to take steps to get fit again. My first steps will be to fix my shitty as fuck diet by having substantial breakfast, lunch, dinner consisting of reasonably healthy food every day rather than eating out a lot (cut back on bad carbs, cholesterol, and sodium big time). The most important thing is the diet for now. Secondarily I'm going to walk around outside at least 3 times a week and maybe even jog a bit. Setting up DDR again might also be a good idea. Shooting some hoops is something I used to do too. Making a game out of getting exercise will probably do me some good. |
