it could be received poorly, a la dickwagging. but it seems that the site... seems... polite? i'd like it to be so at least, or if people were being mean to newbies, that the fact that they are being mean to *newbies* is now far more visible. the problem is nobody rly KNOWS where anyone is, bc its not visible at a glance

if people's "D"s were more visible (ha ha ha), people would be able to more quickly assess a person's abilities and needs wrt play styles. for example, RANK 1966 intermixed with AVERAGE RANK 587 or GRAND TOTAL 9114201234 doesnt rly tell u *much* at a glance. if enough people are willing to put their "D"s (ha ha) in their sig, it must be an important piece of information to signal. so it makes sense to formalise it

for example, i'm uhh, d2. i'm not the best at the game, but i assure you my passion is strong!! people will be now able to suss this at a glance, and help me out instantly if i am in need of help. they'll know what stuff i am able to AAA and FC and all that, and can give me appropriate advice. that the divisions are largely *invisible* leads people to privilege the mean user, that of say, D5-D6 level. whereas if people *had* their Ds out, naked, and in the open air, they might be able to see people with Ds roughly the same size as theirs to hang out with (i notice a lot of "D" solidarity happens during social events that involve them, like tournaments!), without feeling suffocated by the norm of Ds much larger than theirs

catering to core users can be important for any site/product, let alone FFR.

we can go on redit and post screenshots, achievements, ect. in the stepmania thread and get some more traffic and such. It sucks how much ffr has died, especially ever since ffr went down for quite some time.

So, after extending the FFR api a bit (http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...0&postcount=31), this isn't too difficult.. There are still some flaws with my API though, I need to:

#1 make it more efficient.. too many unnecessary regexes/loops etc, algorithm slow
#2 grab more accurate stats from other parts of the website.. I realised just purely grabbing the advanced stats data isnt enough, if I want accurate stats on # of FCs, # of AAAs (since advanced only tracks since like late april..), I'll need to :
-->use the real API to grab level stats 
-->iterate through each level after using my api to get # of notes 
-->calc which songs are sdgs, fcs etc..  

-->grab # of games played from more accurate spot to track legacy games played

Either way, this works for now.. I've made a custom stats/signature generator of sorts - the webhost is pretty slow and the script isnt the greatest, so you might need to refresh a couple times unless the server gives enough bandwidth, but:

Put in your username for generate signature at the bottom.. It is based off having a pre-saved json of your stats since the host is too slow for my api to call it in the script itself, so if it doesn't have your stats, you'll get a message:

After you click that link (and refresh a bunch until it runs lol), and it finally generates the stats (http://dinglesffr.byethost5.com/Play.../rushyrulz.txt), you can go back and generate a signature:



NOTE: I need to make the avatars dynamic sized because I didn't realise people had non square avatars, easy fix though

Now, that brings me to my main problem - I'm not much of an artist, lol.. The way it's set up now, I can make it use:

- Any Font
- Any background for the signature itself
- Could do selectable font colors etc.

Essentially, any of the data at http://dinglesffr.byethost5.com/Play...nglesberry.txt is displayable (right click the page and press "view-source" to get a cleaner view)..

With that said, is anyone interested, and would want to help design signatures/the backgrounds etc? It can be any background, can also select any custom font (if you can find a ttf of it, which is a common format for custom fonts), I'm not much of an artist..
