I can answer your first one.

You're thinking of automation clips, which you can do with virtually any knob in FL. Simply highlight the portion of the playlist you want the crescendo/decrescendo to cover, right-click on either the knob on the step editor or mixer (the mixer knob is regarded as more effective), and hit "Create automation clip". With automation clips, you can even increase/decrease your tempo, swing, delay, flanger tweaks, etc. Get creative.

Hola FFR! It's been months since I contributed to the forums, but I'm back now. I saw that cornandbeans started posting, got super excited. read the thread then realized he hasnt in a while. oh well its a good topic anyways!

so one thing that bugs the hell outta me with FL is automating the tempo in a precise manor. for example if i want to go from 140bpm to 175bpm it take me forever to get the mouse to drag the end point on the automation clip to just the right spot so it ends at 175bpm. is there a way to input values for automation point locations?

I have 8, it's the same deal.

You can edit channel pitch, but it's not going to bend the pitch too drastically.

I just wanted to expand on this slightly -- this works for the knobs in FL Studio, but if you work with 3rd party VSTs (which I'm assuming you don't yet), you can't right-click most of the parameters to create an automation clip.

To do that, you move the parameter's knob/slider/whatever slightly, and then go to the plugin window's drop down menu in the top left corner. Highlight "last tweaked parameter" and click "create automation clip".

It took me forever to figure that out but it helped so much when I did.

This is something that bothered me a lot too. It's literally impossible to slide the auto point to every single beat. Cornandbeans actually already explained a good (in fact, the only) method of how to make precise tempo changes earlier in this thread though:

An automation clip can be set to any parameter in FL studio, it's a very handy object for transitions and such. The automation clip will pop up in the audio section of your playlist. It's pretty much self explanatory, but it's very hard to be precise with tempo. Usually what I do is I first create a clip with the original tempo, and then shift down to the desired tempo and create another clip. You just need to piece them together right, and on the first clip you should make a slope up/down to the second tempo. To bring the tempo back up, just create another clip after changing the tempo to 140 again.

Does this include Sytrus?

Sytrus is an FL plugin, your method works with it.

Just a reminder:

for those of you with midi keyboards/controllers you still need to make automation clips even if you have a value linked to your controller, unless you're live recording

otherwise, its still the right click, etc.

Ok, so I understand the basics of fl, but this is more of a technical problem than a style question...

Basically, I left FL on for a while (in the middle of a project--I'm on the demo version, so I can't save), and I let my bro listen to the song I was working on... I come back about 3 hours later, and when I hit play, there's no sound. No sound in the main song nor in any of the channels, but when I use the keyboard to make a note, it does make sound... Except for the crash cymbal I was using. For some reason, that's the only one that's working.

I asked my brother if he messed with anything, and he claims not to have touched anything... So is it a problem with FL or is it some easy solution that I just don't see yet?

Here's the screenshot of my page.

from the screenshot you just gave (and thanks) it shows that your other channels are muted. see the crash channel, and how the green dot to the left of it is lit up? well you want all of your channels green dot to light up. otherwise, only your crash channel will be audible. perhaps you should beat up your little brother...

Bump, and a question:

What would be the best way to put lyrics into a song? Get a lyrics wav file? Record them? Use the voice generator that's in FLstudio?

What kind of lyrics; your own lyrics? An a capella?

For your own lyrics, it's really best to record them separately (to avoid lag/skips) from your project's file with a metronome. And of course for an a capella, just open it up in an audio clip (channels > add one > audio clip) and do what you need to from there (time stretching / tempo changes). The voice generator REALLY sucks in FL imo, so try to stay away from using that too much unless you like generic unsynchronized bs.

If you want like... phrases from a song, you can open the audio up in Edison and cut out the phrase you want and drag that into an audio clip/wave traveller.

As far as tempo-changing and time-stretching goes, that probably requires to huge tut to learn. :| Sorry if this isn't an ideal answer for your question. :x

Okay, from experience, some people learn faster by defragmenting complete work to understand it fully. With me being one of them, may I request a complete music track in .flp?

Go through all of them! Go through the other project folders as well. The short clips and other things were a big help for me. Once you get used to the basics of FL Studio, you should graduate onto some tutorials from the big shots, and maybe some books on mixdowns and mastering.
