Default Ongoing FFR League (Season One)

Welcome to Devonin's Ongoing FFR League. This is a somewhat new thing, think of it like a tournament that doesn't actually end, with prizes given out periodically as we go along. I'll explain everything below.

FORMAT

The league is going to be divided into 5 divisions, corresponding to general skill level at FFR. The Qualifying event is already over, and we have our Season 1 rankings. If you didn't take part in the qualifier, unfortunately you aren't taking part in the main portion of this season's league. There still is the option for participation though, as I'll explain.

At the end of each Season (One round per week for 6 weeks) we'll take a 1 week break to give out prizes, and sort out anything that needs changing, and then the next season will start.

SEASONAL DIVISION MOVEMENT

At the end of each season, the top X people in their division will be moved up one division, and the bottom X people will move down a division. The top of Division 1 stay put, and the bottom of Division 5 are removed from the league and put into a 're-qualifying' bracket. This bracket also contains anybody who wants to join mid-season. At the end of each season, the players in the re-qualifying bracket are shuffled into the league at skill-appropriate levels.

SCORING AND PRIZES

This is a raw score based league, it's all about accuracy and skill. There won't be any trick-shot rounds (bad PA, max boos all that other stuff) I know it's a game, but this is a reasonably serious attempt to get some long-term competition and interest going. Scores are ranked simply by their raw score, highest to lowest. Points are awarded each round, with 1000 points awarded to the first place finisher, and .9*N points for each lower place. (This means that it is MUCH easier to stay competitive. This is the method I used for the Critical Thinking tournies way back, and it makes the middle of the pack a lot easier to move around in.

At the end of each season, prizes will be given out across the divisions such that the top 50% of each division win something (So the more people who sign up, the more people get prizes, including YOU!)

FAQ (As things come up)

GENERAL QUESTIONS
Q: How do I sign up?
A: The participants in the league are made up of those who took part in the Qualifying Round, and anybody who was in the re-entry bracket in the previous season. If you are not one of these people, you will be in the re-entry bracket THIS season, and the league next season.

Q: When does the first round start?
A: Each Season begins after 1 full week from the end of the previous season.

Q: How long is each season?
A: The season will be 6 rounds, 1 per week, Sunday->Sunday

Q: I'm on Team X, Can we make this a Team Thing too?
A: Absolutely! If you're on one of the FFR Teams, just include it in your signup request and I'll put a note beside the name. While I'm not including anything in -my- tourney about the teams, it's a great way for you to compete and rank against your own and other teams!


DIVISION/MOVEMENT QUESTIONS
Q: What if I don't submit a score for a round?
A: You get 0 points, and drop places

Q: What if someone becomes inactive, do they just soak up a spot until they work their way all the way out of the bottom?
A: Anybody who fails to submit for at least 3 of the 6 rounds of a season is dropped immediately to the re-qualifying bracket

Q: Someone is obviously too good for their division! Move them up mid-round!
A: Not going to happen. I'll do my best to put people in the qualifying bracket into the correct place at season start, but if someone is really good and got misplaced (Or skill jumps, or whatever) then they slowly work their way up just like everybody else. Yes this means a D1 player who somehow got into D3 is probably going to win D3, then win D2 next season, but the prizes go down to 50% of people, and I'd really like to see this become a permanant ongoing thing, so there's MORE than enough time to be winning credits and prizes

SCORING/SUBMISSION QUESTIONS
Q: What's with this 0.9*N nonsense? How do the points work?!?
A: Basically, this system is designed to keep a large number of competitors as competitive and involved as possible. The way it works is that the top score for a round is awarded 1000 points. For each place below that, they player scores 90% of the previous person's points. So instead of a usual structure that tends to go
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0
It goes
1000, 900, 810, 729, 656, 590, 531, 478, 430, 387

This means that as you move down into the middle of the pack, it is MUCH easier to stay competitive and in the running for good prizes since one bad round isn't going to completely wreck your score.
