Mmmmmmm weeaboo?
I made miso soup with shiitake-wakame dashi.
In other words, miso soup (a classic japanese soup) with a vegetarian stock. Oh, from scratch, not using any silly pre-made stuff. This is the first time I've tried making it - coincidentally, also the first time I've ever HAD miso soup. I screwed up a bit though. I put far too much miso in this bowl, so it's extremely salty. I added more dashi (stock) but it still tastes like about twice as much miso as it needs. However, it's still awesomely yummy. It's amazing to be in a korean-japanese grocery. You're the only white person, and everyone's staring at you. You buy wakame and miso and they know what you're making and they think you're a silly weeaboo. They also probably start wondering why you aren't buying any bonito or pocky, since you are a silly weeaboo. But that's not it at all. The other day I made biryani. (That's an indian rice dish)... or at least I attempted to. I was much less successful with that one. I just really, really love cooking. It makes me happier than like, anything else. And I ran out of white things to cook. Tomorrow I will add less miso and see how it goes. And yes, chitchat = livejournal. For weeaboos.

I did make sushi once. Don't know the proper name for it. All the fish was salmon though, as I had nothing else. Oh and veg like.

It just kinda smells like sugar tastes. Really sweet. With a hint of toastiness. - So, I am a noob, and I didn't realize that dried ito-wakame (seaweed) expanded to HUEG PROPORTIONS when immersed in water. I got a whole lot of it. I am not sad, but happy - it only cost 4 dollars, and the amount I got will last me until the end of time. The only problem is, I have to watch out that I don't try to smoke it - it looks a lot like my salvia. ><

Re: Mmmmmmm weeaboo?
Seaweed-salvia....does not compute?
The salvia extract I had was quite a bit grainier than any seaweed I've seen. |

Re: Mmmmmmm weeaboo?
It's not extract, it's just leaves. And they look similar to the seaweed- very dark crinkly dried stuff that gets lighter when hydrated. The main difference is that the seaweed is thinner. And when you hydrate it, it looks and smells like seaweed. They're easy to tell apart hydrated, but dry, they are a bit similar looking.

Re: Mmmmmmm weeaboo?
I have to ask, why do you have leaves? I had a friend who bought a ridiculous amount of leaves, like a large zip-lock bag full, consumed half of it in one sitting, and it resulted in just a minor headache.
I can see how hydrated salvia leaves looks similar though. One taste however would easily tell anyone the difference, BLEH. ^_^ |

And uh I got leaves cause... I heard it's best for quidding, which was all I wanted to do at the time - I was aversive to smoking. However, now, I've tried smoking them.... ehhh.... doesn't do a thing. Quidding was better, though rather uncomfortable in the mouth. Also if you do them long enough you might benefit from the reverse tolerance. Hydrated salvia does NOT look similar; they only look similar when dry. There are many reasons why they are different hydrated, but let's just say that seaweed are not leaves and that should explain it. More like gigantic slimy blades of grass.

Re: Mmmmmmm weeaboo?
Wait, you tried ingesting/smoking something other than salvia divinorum? Or are you referring to salvia divinorum and just not putting the divinorum there?

Re: Mmmmmmm weeaboo?
I ABSOLUTELY hated my quidding experience, those leaves seriously tasted like ****. My extract experience though; WOW. I like, left the universe for about a half century with my buddies.

Re: Mmmmmmm weeaboo?
So I am getting better at judging the amount of miso to use - looks like a heaping spoonful for 2 cups of broth. It is delicious this way.
When I had way too much miso, the first time, it was kinda like "Eeeee if I ate too much of this I'd get quite sick of it". But with the right amount of miso it's definitely delicious and not nausea-inducing.

Re: Mmmmmmm weeaboo?
Well, there are a lot of different types of salvia, or sage, so I was just confused. >_>
