I don't know about you, but I'm waiting for ddr4 motherboards and haswell-e intel cpu's before I upgrade my hardware.

Re: Building my first PC. Tell me how I'm doing.
I'm not really an enthusiast. I don't need top-tier hardware in my PC. I just need my own PC that will be able to play games fairly well and do anything else I would want to do with it. I'm also more of an AMD guy

Also, since you're getting multiple hard drives, make sure they both come with a sata cable or else you'll have to throw another one in. They're only about $5 anyways so it won't be a big deal if you need an extra. I'd also like to say that I know nothing about AMD so I can't say how well it'll perform. Almost forgot too, get an aftermarket CPU cooler. Usually the ones that come with CPUs are pretty junky.

While I agree with this sentiment, it's always going to be the case. No matter when you decide to purchase tech hardware (phones, computers, etc), there's always going to be something better right around the corner. |

Re: Building my first PC. Tell me how I'm doing.
I am going to get a CD drive. Just didn't think it was really worth posting it since it will be a generic $20-ish one.
I was also thinking about a CPU cooler as well but I wasn't sure if I really needed one. They aren't very expensive so I can definitely pick one up. It'll probably cost around $1000 after tax and shipping for everything. Not too bad. |

I'm assuming you're going to be playing games and stock coolers don't do too well when under heavy load.

Alright I'll pick up the highest rated compatible CPU cooler. Should I get more case fans too?

IMO, use http://pcpartpicker.com/
to compile your parts together when you're ready to order. You might save some money Also, IMO, grab a GTX770 instead of the Radeon R9 270X |

Re: Building my first PC. Tell me how I'm doing.
Depends on how many your case comes with. I have 2 intake in the front, 1 intake in the bottom, push/pull exhaust on my liquid cooling radiator in the back, and 1 exhaust on the top. I think it's good to have a balance of intake/exhaust.

Re: Building my first PC. Tell me how I'm doing.
With your CPU I'd definitely invest in an aftermarket cooler. This should fit in your case fine: http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-...rds=cpu+cooler
Also I would invest in a slightly higher wattage PSU for when you want to upgrade down the line. 750-800 should be fine. You can also get a 60GB SSD and save some money unless you plan on installing all of your games on the SSD.

Re: Building my first PC. Tell me how I'm doing.
get an i5 instead
amd gets beat out in processors for gaming at every price range. 8 cores is silly. do you know what framerates in certain games you're aiming for? that's the best way to narrow what CPU and GPU to get

Re: Building my first PC. Tell me how I'm doing.
I'm not going for Max settings or anything. There's also no way I'm getting a gtx 770. Not spending $450 on a GPU. Nope.
Intel is just way more expensive for everything. I'm not a hardcore gamer so most of it would be a waste. |
