Shigeru Miyamoto looked up "stubborn" in a Japanese-English dictionary and one of the synonyms (or something) was "donkey".

It was actually a typo.
We were discussing this back in grade 1 or 2 or something like that, I just remember my teacher bringing up the subject. "Has anyone here ever played 'Donkey Kong'"? "Yes" "Have you ever wondered why it's called Donkey Kong when it's actually a monkey?" "..." "The person responsible for typing it in couldn't really speak engish, he was basically typing off what was given to him, he hit the 'D' key instead of the 'M' key by mistake, therefore it's called Donkey Kong." |

Moogy is right, freak is wrong. Never trust school teachers folks.
Kong = Ape Donkey = Stubborn P.S. - Is anyone anticipating Donkey Konga? I sure am, even though it's going to be the easiest game ever.

I think Rare owns DK, and they left Nintendo, so I dont think there will be a Donkey Konga.

Oh, goodie. DK64 made me totally lose faith that any future DK game would be any good. But with Namco, it just might be good.
