Re: New lens
Agreed. Mostly going for cold and alone type feelings, the last shot was just really a shot of nostalgia for me so I made it a bit of a more washed out style on purpose, but like I said, to please me :J
All of these were on tripods.

Re: New lens
Did I mention I got ANOTHER lens? I might as well just make this my new photography thread.
I have a 50mm f/1.4 lens now, so that's fun. I didn't get to use it for this experimental photoshoot I did yesterday... Very simple rig: a blackboard on chair, mason jar full of water (I WISH I had something bigger) on a towel, tinfoil and my camera/flash. Unfortunately I had to use my macro lens to shoot these, because the small jar wouldn't show much detail with the 50mm. Way harder to work with, 95% of the shots were too blurry or just out of focus/not in the shot. Here's some that were decent: None are exactly mind blowing and I KNOW I could do a way better job with a bigger water tank. I might just go get something cheap, it's fun to play with this. It also took me a long time to realize I had to change my flash mode to High Speed in the camera so that I could go past 1/200 shutter speed, hence why there's so much blur <__> after that they looked fairly sharp but none were very interesting.

Re: New lens
Thanks~
Here's some more, just practicing with water droplets. I've got a pretty solid rig built now, I'll be playing with it more.

Re: New lens
These pictures feel off somehow. They aren't as sharp as they could be...maybe a bit grainy too. What iso is this at?
Also, do you have the MagicLantern firmware? I just put it on my t3i and holllllyyyyy eff it gives you so many more shooting options. Really opens up the cameras capabilities. |

Re: New lens
By "off" I believe its the framing of the shot. It seems that in the pics the detail/focus is lopsided to an edge enough to distract the viewer from viewing the picture as a whole
If the raw shots were zoomed out much more, you would have control over cropping/how you want to frame your shot; but of course its much better if you have the idea in mind when composing the shot itself Besides that the clarity is fine to me IMO, other than the framing these are pretty good |

Re: New lens
Indeed, most of those are not cropped at least very much. Just experimenting, it's really frustrating trying to get really sharp splashes, I tried for a few hours today with little success with the setup I have/lack of time to prepare. I'll move onto something else for now.

Re: New lens
The stuff you can do with Magic Lantern is really powerful from what I've tested so far.
Just set up a time lapse from about 4am to 9am on my front porch with the intervalometer feature, which took 5 pictures (HDR bracketing in 1 stop increments) every 10 seconds, so you get a super nice HDR time lapse video. I forgot to take my ISO off of auto so it came out really grainy and was a waste of time, but you get the idea. Being able to take 2 pass HDR video is insane too. The focus tools and PiP magnification for focusing are really useful, try those out on your water splashes ;D Last edited by darkshark; 02-13-2012 at 11:32 AM.. |

Re: New lens
Woopwoop. Just playing around some more had these objects sitting on a black sweater and used my ipod to light up specific areas with a long exposure. Basically painting the exposure you want, and a decorative spray around the image as well. Lotsa fun.
