Well, I kind of have an idea for those who are making new RPGs. If you make an FFR-related RPG, I'm sure Synth would host it.

50 megs of space, direct linking capability, support for PHP, all FREE. That should be more than enough to host something like that.

I am good too, but also exceptionally lazy and an incredibly slow typer.
So, no proof there, but I assure you.

While we're on the topic of this, can anyone teach me how to use variables in that program? That is the one thing I was never able to figure out. And some good examples of when you use them would be helpful too thanks.

Why can no one understand variables? They're not that hard, and they're a basic element of programming anything ;_;
Anyway, a variable is just what its name implies. It is a storage place for varying data. Let's say you wanted the game to track how many Magic Crystals you've found. Every time you find one, in the event, add 1 to a variable such as 0001:Magic Crystal. Later on, you could have someone say, "Wow! So far you have found /v[ooo1] Magic Crystals!" (At least, I think that's the code used) The biggest use for variables comes in with custom battle systems. They can store numbers such as HP/MP totals, character and enemy stats, and so forth. One variable can also be used mathematically with another. For example, in a custom battle system, you might use a formula to calculate damage, and then subtract the damage total from the enemy's HP total. Variables can be used in fork conditions and event conditionals, making them the most versatile thing in RM2K and RM2K3. From simple item tracking, to keeping track of the time, to storing and displaying numbers, coding dual commands, customs shops, minigame scorekeeping, an ammo system, the uses go on and on. |

Yeah the problem wasn't understanding what a variable is... I know that perfectly from taking a computer programming class which used Turing and constant everlasting veriables... It's just that I couldn't figure out how to use them in battle.
Ok here's an example of where I think I might need to use variables, I've been using switches but it's not working and I've been stuck on this part of the game for months. I'm making a battle where you start with 1 person. After the enemy takes a certain amount of damage. There's some text, and you recieve a second person on your team. The enemy also morphs into a new and stronger form. This happens 4 times but my problem is, the first text is repeated every turn, you do recieve the second person but the enemy rarely morphs into his second form. The battle just continues from having 2 ppl and the enemy in his first or (rarely) second form. |
