To everyone who's blaming Texas for everything:

I live in Texas, and I can assure you that we're not all brainless idiots.

I'm pretty sure not too long ago Texas had a petition to secede from the United States.

Right, then the US can declare way on them and take over their government and overthrow them all and reinstate it.

some kid from my school is facing 7 years for posting something like that too. he's someone who's never in trouble & everyone clearly knew he was kidding. i guess if they were notified about this 'threat' and they did nothing about it because they assumed he was joking, and he ended up massacring a school then that would be pretty bad lol

Guess I'm lucky I've never been tracked down for some of the things I've told people while playing LoL...

Also people need to stop taking the internet so seriously. If he did plan on doing something like this why the fuck would he post it on Facebook..... How can this even get prosecuted lmfao.

The extensions of overly opinionated egos via Internet personas makes me wonder what having a conversation with some of you guys irl would be like. It's a scary thought.

Ya know, I'm cool with people being cautious and reporting something they think might be problematic because jokes could turn to reality very quickly.

However, the actions people tend to do when they're cautious is what makes tragic stories like this exist. Why in the world would you contact law enforcement when the base assumption is a silly threat, that sound like it's a joke, holds no merit?

Scary world we live in. I'm sure there are numerous stories from employers that they jokingly said something only to have their career destroyed because of said joke.

I guess life should have a big shining sign in front of everyone's faces. "NO FUN ALLOWED, ASSUME PEOPLE THINK YOUR JOKES ARE LITERAL"

So because they have a self-sustaining economy, jailing someone for a joke (albeit bad in taste) is ok? Or were you just talking about Texas trying to secede? I don't really see the relevance either way.

A lot of states could do this. There would still be a marked decrease in quality of life for many.

Texas does well in some areas and absurdly shitty in others (as is the case with other states). It also happens to be quite rich in resources (e.g. oil).

Just depends on what you look at.
