Proof of COMPLETE AND TOTAL IDIOCY THREAD [FFR Mix]*UPDATE*
So I haven't been here for the last three days. Most of you have probably already been flipping out and committing various Emo acts of crying and suicide over that fact, and over the possibilty that I may not be coming back. FEAR NOT, I am here- but I have a good reason for being gone.
See, I haven't been anywhere for the last three days- well, not anywhere in cyberspace, anyway. Three days ago, I went on the internet around noon. After that, I tried to connect at around 3 (I can't stay connected, because while I'm on my FREAKING SLOW 56K LINE in Florida, we have to pay by the hour because my dad is cheap). Between the time it worked and the time it didn't, I hadn't installed anything, deleted anything, downloaded anything, opened an Email, or even restarted my computer. Shit. So I use my Cisco skillz to go into the bowels of my computer and screw around with everything I feel comfortable touching. Didn't help. I spent a good two hours screaming at my laptop before giving up. My dad came home, did the same thing. We even went into the POS windows troubleshooting guide- no good. What happened every time, was the client would dial, verify the username and password, then drop off. No error message, no redial, nothing. It would just end. So we gave up and called the dreaded Roadrunner Technical Support line. We spent a good two hours on the phone, getting transferred around from technician to technician, each progressively dumber and lower down the intelligence ladder than the last, because none of them wanted to admit they really didn't know what the problem was. Then they started getting retarded and throwing out random hypothesi [sic?]. For instance, one guy tells us that our logon software must be corrupted. Well, how'd that happen? Oh, I dunno- must have corrupted itself. UNLIKELY. Then another guy tries to log onto our username with a cable modem. He's logging on with his modem- on his computer- onto their servers- and can't do it. O GEE RLY? WE TOLD U THAT ALREADY. So then, in a stroke of brilliance, the guy decides that something's wrong with my computer. Not the modem, not the username, my computer, when he can't log onto my username from HIS COMPUTERS onto HIS SERVER. UNLIKELY. Finally, they decided to scrap the whole thing and just give us a new username and password, even though we'd been using this one for years. We set that up (more difficult and time consuming than it should have been), and they had told us beforehand that it would be effective immediately. So we finish it all up. then ask the guy "So that's now effective? We should be able to log on?" "Well, no." Owai. "But the technician two guys ago told us it would become effective immediately." "Well, technically, it does. It just doesn't update in the servers for up to 24 hours." OH WOW. That took longer than they said it would anyway, but finally, FINALLY, I'm back online. So if I seem a bit pissed it's because I am. Idiots. |

COMCAST?! I have Comcast. And comcast is full of idiots too. The server is too inconsistent...I hate it, but there's really nothing better in this area.

We have comcast... glad I don't have to deal with the tech people. But, so far, it's worked good. What DOES suck is Qwest. Their just, blah, complete and utter bastards, ALL of them.

I like the part where you didn't try a Winsock fix. Whenever my computer does that, I just use my nice convenient Winsock fix and intarweb is back up and working.

Aight...so guess who STILL hasn't been able to get online?
The internet worked for a grand total of a day, before going on the brink again. Same problem as before. Getting really fed up with this. It's absolutely inexcusable that for the two weeks out of the entire year I need to use a 56k, I don't get service. What they did next was even worse- I'm trying to make my dad change ISPs because of it, and if I were paying I would have cancelled in a flash. After my internet went down again, I tried a few tweaks (without success) and called them back. "Sup, what's wrong with my internet?" The guy on the phone has me try a few things (restart ur computer durr) that I'd already done, failing to understand that I wasn't as idiotic as most of his callers (he had to explain step by step how to bring up the command prompt). So finally, the guy concludes there's something wrong with my physical media; either my modem or my cable was shot. I asked him if that could be causing the on-again, off-again service I'd been getting over the last couple days. "Oh yeah, sure, that would totally explain it." He told me to go buy new stuff and call him back if it still didn't work. Now, if it was anyone else, I might have tried that. But I was all too godamn familiar with their advice. So before I sign off, I told him to see if he could access our name with a modem. "Oh yeah, sure, no problem." And you did that with a dial up, 56k modem? "Oh, no, but the authentication process is the same." Frown. Why don't you try it anyway? "Oh, now I can't get in...that's strange." DURR After chewing the guy out and going over everything he told me, eventually he called up to the mainframe desk and found out that there was a MASSIVE, NATIONWIDE 56K SERVER SHUTDOWN taking place over the period of the LAST FEW DAYS. This guy didn't know that. The last seven technicians I talked to didn't know that. None of them knew until I made them call up to the 'brains' (and I use the term loosely) of the corporation. The fact that they were clueless to the point of making up wild excuses such as advising me to go buy additional and unneccessary hardware before offering a valid explanation just shows the complete incompetency of the organization. I mean, you'd think a MASSIVE MAINFRAME SHUTDOWN would warrent a freakin' memo, for Chrissake. Completely inexcusable. I'm advising all of you, right now, that if you're planning on upgrading to broadband or switching ISPs, skip Roadrunner. I absolutely cannot wait until they send me one of those smarmy "What did you think of our customer service?" E-mails... |

Spazz, I've done the winsock fix on my comp 2 times, and about 5 of my friends computers, works like a charm.
