Re: Steve Vai Solo (intense drumming) -- Mike Mangini
lol are you kidding me? Both of those drummers are confined to their respective genres. This is why Mike Portnoy is an incredible drummer, because he can play just about any style.

Well, I was being facetious, so calm down. =p
I didn't even watch the video, but from what everyone is saying, he's extremely fast. I was saying that Flo is faster than most. Also, I agree with you on Portnoy.

Re: Steve Vai Solo (intense drumming) -- Mike Mangini
Well the video is only a demonstration of speed. You can't judge his whole playing style based on that. Surely with all that practice he MUST have learned musicianship.

Again, I didn't watch the video, so I wouldn't know. I'm sure he's a phenomonal drummer.

Re: Steve Vai Solo (intense drumming) -- Mike Mangini
I havnt actually tried to play drums, but ive messed around on a set. I know its friggin hard to move limbs independently, let alone keep a beat. That was incredible technique, if somewhat lackign in a solid beat.

Re: Steve Vai Solo (intense drumming) -- Mike Mangini
Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy are like in a laughable sense, MUCH BETTER!!! He's good, don't get me wrong but in terms of a rhythmical solo that's is faster, Mike Portnoy owns him, and in terms of sheer speed with rhythm and consistensy, Neil Peart is the world class, hands down, greatest of all, best in show, best in class, best.... drummer.... in... the.... WORLD!
