Accessing hidden songs with random function
Has this been reported before?
Yesterday, I was playing FFR in quest of random FC's and AAA's. I was playing in the Velocity engine (beta). Through the song list, I was using the random function to generate songs going from 9 to 11 difficulty-wise. I stumbled upon a song I had never played before: Blue Army (I don't have a pic to back this up since I didn't know it wouldn't come back). I didn't manage to FC it and, because it was so long, I decided to change songs in order to come back later. Problem is, I wasn't even supposed to play that file in the first place. It's a secret song from what I've seen, but it doesn't appear in my secret category yet. Of course, I can't play it anymore. This brings a question: Does this mean we can access hidden files with the random option? Say, vrofl, for example? Is that an easter egg? A bug? edit: Here's a replay of the song I forgot I had saved. I thought I was going to FC and stupidly missed, so I recorded it by chance. Last edited by MarioNintendo; 11-8-2011 at 12:49 PM.. |

It's a bug that's been reported quite a few times. I'm fairly certain that the token songs don't appear though (I could be wrong, but so far people have only reported secret/purchased).

Re: Accessing hidden songs with random function
I thought it wasn't a bug. I thought it was on purpose.. if so, I may be bug abusing. x-x;
But yeah, it doesn't let you play any of the Token/Skill Token songs. jsyk. edit: It also lets you play songs you haven't bought. |

You can access anything. Of course, token songs won't record scores unless you actually -have- the token.

Re: Accessing hidden songs with random function
Ah ok, I never had anything like vrofl pop up on me before lol. But if they don't record I guess it doesn't much matter since people can play them over on the old LD engine anyway.

Re: Accessing hidden songs with random function
The real problem is a small oversight when I build the song array that's used for picking a random song. I forgot to check if the song has been purchased or not. I have it fixed for the next version.

Oh, well, I had never heard of other users experiencing it as well. Thanks for the quick response, guys!

Re: Accessing hidden songs with random function
I randomly got a song called ''undefined'' and loading didn't work. I'm guessing it was tokens/others? I think it's only working for purchased/secret.

Re: Accessing hidden songs with random function
Same as with Hakulyte, easiest way to get that is to random 13's, and not have any specification on it.

Re: Accessing hidden songs with random function
I believe not. It loads "undefined" whenever you entered something in the search bar and press random after your search results appear. The loading doesn't work because I presume the random function needs the whole song list in order to work (as if it was generating a random number like 387 and that's the song you're going to play. If your search made 3 results pop up, you'd have 3 chances out of 955 not to load an undefined song)

Re: Accessing hidden songs with random function
When I random with 13's and have no search or special filters on, I still get undefined

Re: Accessing hidden songs with random function
13 is a special case where logic fails.
In order for token songs to even be loaded into game, you must have the token as those checks are done on the server when it builds the playlist. Purchased and Secret are always loaded since purchased needs to be viewable in order to purchase them from the shop, while Secret have credit checks locally and on server side. |

Re: Accessing hidden songs with random function
Fair enough. I figured if you could random vRofl, I would have already. I've tried a number of times in the past.

Re: Accessing hidden songs with random function
I just figured you couldn't random tokens and skill tokens. Because I haven't ever played Tell v3 or Dendrite v2, and I only random. I hardly ever choose a song.
edit: Oh, I was half thinking when I read your message velo. I get it now why you can't random a token. Last edited by Emithith; 11-8-2011 at 02:23 PM.. |

Re: Accessing hidden songs with random function
The reason undefined shows up is because flash throws garbage into the array which isn't valid song data. But since it's in the song array, it can sometimes get picked, level 13's are few apart so the chances of undefined getting picked it's high. This is no longer a problem since I now check if the song is invalid when picking a random song now.
