Wouldn't it be Cool If...
Wouldn't it be cool if there FFR had key sensitivity to every note, and you had to accent certain notes and play certain passages very softly, while playing others loudly? In my opinion, it would make stepfiles extremely fun and more musically accurate to the songs. ^.^ There could also be some crescendos and some diminuendos throughout certain songs to make stepfiles more realistic to their respective songs. What does everyone think of this idea (barring the topic that it would be almost impossible realistically)?
*edit* Oops, the thread was supposed to read "Wouldn't it be Cool If..."; I wish I could edit thread titles.

Cool if I had a keyboard that would do that

Re: Would it be Cool If...
sounds very bad in addition to being absolutely (not almost) impossible for like 4 different reasons
people will want to hit notes as hard or as soft as they want. this wont improve anybody's experience. watch a video of somebody doing an ma score on stepmania, and listen to how hardly they (generally) hit the keys in order to aid in maintaining a steady rhythm. this should never be restricted or guided by some part of the stepfile. |

It's hard to even explain why this, even if it could exist, would be such a bad feature because of how many things it would rely on that would change gameplay. |

Re: Wouldn't it be Cool If...
yeah it'd be pretty sick but I think what you want to do is learn the piano instead. It's much more rewarding, too.

Re: Wouldn't it be Cool If...
I already play the piano. ^.^ I'm saying that it would be cool to incorporate dynamics in FFR because it would be similar to playing a real instrument.

Re: Would it be Cool If...
How would it significantly change gameplay when it's a bonus feature that wouldn't affect the game normally?

This thread makes me think about some cool things that you could do to charts.
In fact, I remember talking to hi19hi19 about a part of our collab where I wished we could have notes that were considerably less opaque than others since the steps representing the given instrument were so quiet, hahaha. |

Re: Wouldn't it be Cool If...
Found this thread when I was looking through your posts for tournament info. I think it sounds fun.
First thing I thought of was Bemani keysounded charts (Mostly Pop'n Music), where the songs are built in such a way that the notes where you are supposed to hit only sound if (and when) you hit the buttons. So your timing and accuracy affects how your playthrough of the song sounds. Boos (in FFR terms) while not reducing your score, will sound like extra noise in the song. Although they can be used to create fun accents as well. (In the Mario Medley there is a secret spot where you can make the 1-up sound if you hit the right buttons LOL)

If you want to make touch sensitive rhythm game you must first invent the universe

In the words of Carl "bearface" Sagan...
jk however, there is something like this in GH Drums, and what basically everyone does is just play the song without differentiating which notes to play softly and which to beat the fuck out of their drums on. Its an interesting idea, but not one I would ever like to see added to FFR, completely ignoring the fact that it (according to other people itt) is completely impossible to implement.

Re: Wouldn't it be Cool If...
Lol Choof.
Anyhoo, people keep saying it is impossible... but not only is this possible, hardware already exists to support it. The real issue here is that the hardware is not a computer keyboard, and most people do not own a music keyboard with analog pressure sensitivity, or any other device that would be capable of supporting it. And while many people own a video game console controller with analog triggers, those generally have two at most, so not really a viable option. All issues aside, I think it would be cool to see something like this implemented. RIP Keyboardmania.

Re: Wouldn't it be Cool If...
Technically, it would take a lot more than a keyboard to be able to apply pressure on a precise scale. But if we could all switch keyboards with pianos (like 0 does, iirc) it could be a really neat idea. But at this point we'd just be a clone of Synesthesia.
