Twilight, I know you're an admin and whatnot, but don't lock a thread if a person hasn't gotten their answer; the least you could have done is linked them to a thread where someone had the same issue resolved - can you imagine how frustrating it would be for you if you had some sort of a problem and had absolutely no idea that it had been resolved for another person?

d4u: I'm running a Windows 7 computer and because of Flash 10, it tends to have a lag issue on any browser. To alleviate this, download Macromedia's Flash 8 standalone (I've uploaded it for you, click here). Once you have this, open IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, click on the Security tab, and then uncheck Enable Protected Mode. Close IE and log back into FFR, making sure that you checked the Remember Me box. Open the standalone I've provided, go to File -> Open, and then type the link to the .swf (link is http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/ffrndanotherway.swf). It should pick up your log in, stats, credits, etc.

(If IE is your default browser, enable Protected Mode once you're finished playing FFR.)

EDIT: Flash 8 has been smooth for me and all of the engine's features work for me. However, if the lag issues continue, you can try a standalone of Flash 9.

***Note that this is a temporary fix and might not work for everyone.

If this is a solution that proves to work for a majority of FFR's players, someone who's on staff can sticky any of the threads with the solution, or create a new one that has it in a single post.

I locked the thread due to some posts that were not erm, helpful to the thread, and that the issue may or may not have been identified (or at least the cause). Either way, I see your concern... Could've done better on it, I agree. I apologize to the thread owner and to TC_Halogen (whom saw the issue).

Just for the record, I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3, Firefox 3.6.10 and the latest version of flash player. I might give your method a try later.

By the way, is anyone getting random misses while they play? I think it might be random, short lag points.

wth...why are people being rude..the guy wanted an answer, and wasn't provided with one. I don't think thats the greatest way how to treat someone. Im sure Twilight wasnt being rude. All Halogen was doing is helping him... there's no need to bash him for being nice

edit: yup...

This is what I thought for a while too (that I sucked and was missing) but really, my computer isn't lagging and I'm actually noticing myself hitting the keys. I've played a challenging song and at a point where there were few arrows to read on the screen, I missed one and I hit the button dead on.

So yeah.

I said my computer wasn't lagging, but things in game appear to "lag". On a related note, this happened almost two years ago, when I first got my laptop. I had Vista Home Premium 64-bit and for a while, FFR was really, really laggy for me at times. I kinda now want to know what os d4u7211 is using, in order to better assist the issue.

Vista is commonly known to have issues with FFR - it spikes every 20-40 frames, with the intensity of each spike varying computer to computer. Some have very minor spikes, while others have extremely strong ones that are simply unbearable. If the OS is Vista, there's really not too much that can be done to my knowledge.

If the OS is Vista, 'bout the only few things I can suggest doing to improve performance without altering flash player versions is disabling the sidebar, switching to the Basic theme (disabling aero desktop) or disabling addons in your browser that use many resources.

I had made a thread on the random misses earlier, I chalked it up to lag.

Oddly enough it hasn't happened since, i'm doing just fine and all of my misses are human error.

d4u7211 replied back to my private message saying that this did in fact work for him:

Quote:
AGHHH omggg haha thank you SOO much. Sorry about the late reply, i was out. I tried it, and it works only thing is the frames seem to show a bit late, but its hardly anything that will bother me, its hardly noticable. THANK you so much once again.
If he's saying that the songs feel a bit late-synced, I'm also sharing the same issue. Not entirely sure if this is fixable within my own power.

Not sure if this will work but if both of you guys use windows 7 then try having aero enabled. However, i don't think this will work with the standalone.

I'm using XP and I'm still getting the "random misses" thing. I hit the buttons, but miss/boo everything. Well, I'm not pushing anything to site admins, just mentioning a problem, since everything is still under maintenance, maybe a few things could get "under the radar".

Well, it seems as though it HAS worked, the lag was gone (in terms of how bad it was before) but it seems now its just having input issues. So the problem was solved but then a new problem arised...Thanks a ton for the help, Halogen. Hopefully editing PC settings will alleviate the input problems.

And yeah, its Vista but whats strange is that before flash 10 was released, i AAA'd 300 on this pc on my first try, hadnt played ffr/sm in three weeks, on the lightdarkness mirror. So it's not my pc per se, but since the standalone is having problems, im pointing the error to the fact my pc cant run flash that well by itself (using as .exe) and cant run flash 10 for crap in general.
