Re: Keyboard Collaboration IV - The Community
I like the banner truly but that isn't the style I am looking for.
256 x 80. Same font as the previous two. "keyboard collaboration IV" centered. Save the psd though because a slight name change might happen before the release. For reference here are my older banners: If you guys want to help with it let me know! |

Re: Keyboard Collaboration IV - The Community
Dang Snapps get with the times bro
We usually go 512x160 banners and 800x600 backgrounds. More room for it to look pretty Unless you are talking about the colours and scheme... in which case why the specific style?

Re: Keyboard Collaboration IV - The Community
the specific colors and style for continuity.
i need rebirths opinion on the sizing. anything larger reminds me of shitty itg packs, low tier stepmania players, and quick releases. maybe i just have old school mentality lol. |

>Still using old banner dimensions of 256 x 80 in 2014. I understand you want to keep the same style as the previous packs with the entire concept centered around combining old and new, but sticking with old design schemes is completely hypocritical to what you're trying to portray—in fact, you're taking a step BACKWARDS with the implications that the old is still what is deemed as acceptable and none of this new trending stuff of today. With the continual development of StepMania as a program itself, we are no longer trapped with the graphical limitations on the past. Everyone and their fucking dog has a widescreen monitor/television with infinitely better hardware compared to the past, so why are you limiting your graphical dimensions to a tiny canvas of 256x80 or 640x480? Even 800x600 is arguably a completely redundant size when present day people have widescreen monitors running a 16:9 resolution or even larger. And even a large majority of people play StepMania full screen as opposed to windowed, so that 640x480 or 800x600 JPEG background you've been using up until now is going to stretch all the way from planet Earth to the next solar system as a result. From a designer's standpoint, a larger canvas in most cases is entirely beneficial as it's obviously more space to work with. With more space to work with also opens up an endless number of design choices one may choose to go with. As an example, I'd really like to see someone pull off a complex typographical composition on a banner as tiny as 256x80 without making it look like absolute ass because of the restrictive canvas space and the image compression that results upon saving small images. Traditional icon design is another perfect example of what I'm referring to in terms of quality reduction and loss as a result of downsizing: 256x256 downsized to 64x64 downsized to 32x32, etc. 512x160 for banners is "acceptable" for today's standards, but really, what's stopping anyone of us to go even larger? Like I mentioned before, with the advent of larger display resolutions, we should also be adapting to those mediums from a graphical standpoint (which is why I said that 800x600 is pretty much an outdated size by today's standards, yet we're all still using it). Even with older versions of SM like 3.9 and 3.95, it kind of baffles me why 256x80 was chosen to be the "standard" when there's very noticeable image compression that occurs—this image compression problem can easily be resolved by simply making a banner proportionately larger, so at some point we all started doubling the size to 512x160. Also, the quality of artwork and design work has only increased exponentially over the years, with countless people going into liberal arts majors, or just simply having a passionate interest in it and disciplining themselves or under guidance from other professionals. We are in an age where anyone can become a so-called "designer" with an endless supply of tools, resources, assets, and information accessible within a couple clicks on the internet (whether they're "good" designers is a completely subjective matter and a whole different story all together). Everything created as STePMaNia GRaPHiCS in say 2005 looks completely tacky and terrible by today's graphical and aesthetic standards. tl;dr version: you're fucking old school as fuck and you're being completely hypocritical for what you're trying to portray with the concept of this pack if you're really set-in-stone about keeping graphical elements like it's circa 2004. just saying

Re: Keyboard Collaboration IV - The Community
Any reason why all of the charts should be set as Heavy and only that difficulty? I don't mind changing my difficulties to Heavy, I just don't really understand the purpose of having such a rule.

I know you're passionate about this stuff, and no one is going to disagree with you, because you're right; we have the technology now, lets use it. But come on man. I'm sure he's just as open to change as everyone else.

Re: Keyboard Collaboration IV - The Community
Traditionally "official" keyboard pack releases had this trait, I'm not sure what the exact reasoning for it was other than for uniformity's sake but yeah

Re: Keyboard Collaboration IV - The Community
I fixed up the original one using IV rather than 4.
Revision 2 I am still attempting to create a banner that better suits what you wanted, though its more difficult than expected. Probably because I dont like the way it looks having "Keyboard Collaboration IV" all in one line. Last edited by ~Zero~; 12-15-2014 at 10:39 AM.. |
