What's with the hostility towards Christians?

It is like they think that evidence against one part of the bible doesn't count towards the entire thing.

A large portion of protestants don't believe in a literal interpretation of the Old Testament, but rather look at its message from a literary standpoint. Themes from the text are interpreted as guidelines to live life by, not a play-by-play of how the world came to be. To not put it eloquently, they don't literally believe the Jewish part of the Bible.

Yeah, a lot of vocal, belligerent Christians may believe verbatim the entire Bible but it's definitely not a majority, and you're not going to convince anyone their faith is wrong by trying to disprove the denotation of the Old Testament. Try to disprove the New Testament first.
