Tachyon 6/7/8/6.5 - 6.875
State of Confusion 8/8/6.5/5 - 6.875
Witchcraft - 7/6/7.5/7 = 6.875

straight 6.875's rofl

While I'm here I might as well make some comments on Tachyon and Witchcraft (State of Confusion was a lazy attempt at an easy file and I'm surprised not just one but two judges gave it an 8)

Dossar:

- Measures 44-52: You have an opportunity to have a rest section here or follow the background melody rather than step 16ths to the hi-hats and put jumps to the piano (it would be less bland).

I felt like it'd be more bland with less layering here, but I'll play around with it.

kjwkjw:

- m. 42 (beats 165.25, 166.75) - missing notes for piano.

I don't here anything missing at 165.25. 166.75, yes there's a sound I didn't step there but I wasn't actually stepping that part of the music. Now that I think of it though I think there's another way I could have stepped this whole part of the song.

MarioNintendo:

-50.336s Try variations from 45.118s

Will keep variation in the back of my mind when I restep this (again).

- A tachyon (pron.: /ˈtæki.ɒn/) or tachyonic particle is a hypothetical particle that always moves faster than light. The word comes from the Greek: ταχύς or tachys, meaning "swift, quick, fast, rapid", and was coined by Gerald Feinberg.

SCIENCE

woker-x:

Play Test: The first runningmen pattern doesn't fit at all. Good layering though.

FUN FACT: I originally didn't step that part as a runningman. I probably should have left it not-a-runningman too, the part of the song I was following isn't intense or even noticeable enough at that part.

21.966 - Should be jump.

I have no idea where you're hearing anything that should be a jump here. Jumps were going to the main synth here.

33.705 - Why did you ignore this??

Because I'm incredibly dumb and didn't notice I was missing something there. Nice catch, thanks!

45.118 - I don't like this section

50.336 - Again

Don't you make that face at me

No but seriously I do need to rework that whole section, I agree.

Dossar:

- The excessive hand usage in this file is a bit bothersome (especially when there are cymbal crashes like second 79.43 and 79.69 that are only stepped as jumps and also have the other instrument going on).

The stuff like at 79.43 and 79.69 wasn't stepped with as many hands so that the double-speed ending would feel more climactic. Do you think I should just convert all the hands in this section to jumps and then keep the hands in the speedup?

kjwkjw:

- m. 23~24 - some of the notes (the earlier ones in particular) are a bit off; you may have to use a more precise snap or do some slight BPM changes.

Oh yeah, this part. Originally I synced this part with a stop, and then before the batch opened the rules changed to not allow stops. I may have screwed up the sync here in the process since it was last-minute and I rushed it like a complete idiot.

As for the ending being off, that surprised me since I've playtested this quite a bit in SM and it never felt off, so I took another look at it. Turns out there's a few very subtle tempo changes that don't make the song quite an even 115 BPM. Not sure what that was all about but I made some adjustments so it should be a bit better.

MarioNintendo:

-A lot of jacks made me scratch my head a bit. I like a healthy challenge, but some of these tend to be exaggerated.

I can't say I really agree with this. But if there's any that you think are especially bad, which ones are they? I might be able to play around with them and see if I can come up with anything better.

Aside from that... it's witchcraft! get naked!

The last time I got naked, three people died. Not a good idea.

I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for a really cool breakdown because this file is basically a 2 minute long buildup. It never happened. File kept dragging on and on. 3/10
Other judges gave suggestions on how I could change up the file a bit and even admitted it dragged on somewhat, but taking off four more points for saying basically the same thing without suggestions was a bit of a let down.

On another note: I'm not sure how the "rejudging" process works because people like Halogen definitely got screwed over lol.

@gameboy42690 if you're looking for a climactic buildup it would definitely be better to limit your layering in the earlier parts of the song.

It's not something that usually happens but can be done on a case-by-case basis if warranted. Just let me know and I'll look into it.

I definitely would like both of my files looked at again, because the polarity in ratings is ridiculous and the reasoning behind them is just as bad.

Disappointed that Day's End got rejected so harshly, considering the lowest rating it got last time was a 6 and I pretty much changed nothing. I wish PR wasn't so important but w/e I guess I'll have to make a compromise between what I want and PR.

In relation to my smile song, I have made these changes to my song in relation to your notes. For some of you, I would like to continue this conversation further:

Dossar:
Quote:
Smile Song – 8/10
1) - Measure 6 get rid of the 24th minijack please
2) - Measure 21 you should still continue layering the 4ths like you did earlier for consistency. The percussion layering here actually works out pretty nicely
1) Fixed
2) I was considering that. I agree. Fixed it.

kjwkjw:

Quote:
Smile Song (Xiz) [7.5/10]
==========
1) I don't really care for too many pony songs, but this was enjoyable!
2) m. 21~27 - how about throwing some notes in for percussion? Feels like it'd be more fun with jumps on every other 4th, starting on beat 81.
3) m. 33~36 - nice change of pace, but it feels inconsistent since you suddenly stop stepping the drumbeats that continue. If you would like to incorporate them into the section without putting too many jumps, you can use colored notes to express the synth. If you have any questions regarding this, feel free to PM me.
1) Thanks! I tried to pick one that really could be stepped nicely, without boring or causing a headache to ani-pony peeps.
2) Added, Fixed
3) After sitting here for a while I think I finally understand what you mean... I tried to layer it a wee bit more... and I think this might be a good compromise?

Smile Song (6.5/10)

1)Xiz, don't use your cdtitle. Now I know it's you, I'll have to give you a shit score. jk but be careful. n00b.

2)36.426s Drum PR suggestion, putting this jump as a (34) would be more effective!

3)41.283s I think you dropped the layering a bit too quick, there, buddy, there should be more arrows before 43.569s at the very least

4)45.854s Minor-ish complaint, since you put jumps to every drum beat before this part, it's distracting that you did not even acknowledge them with single arrows during that segment. I don't think it would add much difficulty, if that was your concern for stepping it this way, and I think it would make that part feel more complete in the end.

5)73.283s to 81.759s This feels like a work in progress. The layering drops so suddenly without warning, you are losing all your momentum. Putting jumps over the "new synth" like you did at 75.283s is alright, but it leaves a gap so immense in the meantime that it just feels plain wrong.

Some fun little rhythms here and there, but I think you have to iron out your layering a bit beforehand.
1) Oopsie lol. My b ^^
2) I see what you mean. Fixed.
3) Fixed. Made jumps instead of singles.
4) I'm really struggling with this. I really did not want to add it because I wanted to cater to the lower difficulty, but now that I look over this again, I have sided with you on this. I changed the layering in that section to fit the rest of the song by adding jumps. It increased the difficulty a bit, but its still playable by D1 peeps.
5) Yeah I just didn't want it to be repetitive. I layered it a bit more properly, where I continued my jumps on the snare.

Bmah:

Quote:
Smile Song / Xiz
rating: 7.5/10 [+.]
1) 24.09s,65.62s: don't need the 48th
2) 26.62-26.90s,34.14s,35.19s,etc.: it's more confusing if you occasionally step the swing rhythm in between the lyrics, because it muddles up what the player's trying to follow and understand. Just focus on specific elements of the song one section at a time. You can layer the swing rhythms in later, and it might be a good idea to do so since the song repeats.
3) 41.85-43.57s: where are the jumps?
4) 45.85s,55.00s: jump to cymbal crash
5) 70.33s: how about an up arrow for better PR?
6) 73.28-80.14s: you don't need to halt layering to showcase the new melody. Color theory would work well here.
7) Summary: Nice work for one of your first submissions! A pretty laid-back file, not much else to say other than perhaps trying to layer in the swing melody later on for some variety.
1) I'm sorry, but I actually really like those in there in both sections... I'm more then willing to change it, but I feel like it adds more then subtracts from the song. If you really are opposed to it lets talk.
EDIT: Especially how I increased the difficulty slightly by layering jumps on the section where it was missing before... I think it flows better with it now.
2) Okay, I adjusted it a bit, not sure if I fixed the problem fully but I think its an improvement.
3) They were stolen. I found them. They are back in the file.
4) Fixed
5) Oh wow I never noticed that. Thanks! Fixed.
6) I'd like to talk to you a bit more about this. I'm not sure how I can implement color theory here well, because im afraid I might over-color it if that makes sense. Teach me the ways of color theory oh wise one! Haha.
7) Thanks a bunch man.
