New Pack?
so if i started a new pack, how much interest would there be? it would be similar to odi3 in that it would be very selective to what types of files would be accepted. there hasn't been a selective pack since odi3 and i wanted to make one.
i am making this thread is to gauge how many people would make files for said pack. i don't want to commit to this if i'm not sure that i will get a steady flow of submissions. i'll answer any questions about what this pack might entail and i would appreciate it if people would give feedback as to why they might not submit files to this pack instead of other packs. |

Re: New Pack?
please tell me that you're going to make multiple charting a requirement. what stepmania needs are less single charted packs that are too hard for the general, casual, populace of stepmania and more fully charted files. idrc if it's going to be as elite of a pack as odipack3, so long as there's multiple charting involved.
I started the ffr season packs as a sort of experiment to see who was willing to actively submit to them if I added a requirement in which files needed a minimum of 2~3 charts, and it turned out better than I initially thought it would and I was essentially flooded with submissions. I was considering making a new community pack sometime in the new year with even more ridiculous requirements, but if this pack of yours takes off, I probably won't bother.

Re: New Pack?
at this point, i would like to strongly encourage multiple charts, so to speak. i don't want to force anybody into doing anything right now because i'm not sure about the general rate of submissions i will get and adding restrictions such as that will lessen it. i completely agree with you though about the benefits of multiple charts, though.
EDIT: so i think a decent solution to the accessibility problem you mention is to identify songs that lend themselves well to easier difficulties. when that is done, either i or somebody else can step them and add them into the file after. Last edited by Fission; 12-22-2013 at 03:40 PM.. |

Re: New Pack?
I think forcing multiple difficulties would be great. The more that charts are engineered to everyone, the more people who will play the pack in the long run. I'd rather sacrifice the amount of charts for the quality of them all. It also encourages collabs and stuff and those are always interesting. Just my two cents though.

Re: New Pack?
i guess it depends what you mean by multiple difficulties, that is: easy/medium/hard, hard/harder, etc.
some songs don't lend themselves well to easier charts and forcing it can create a mess of a file (see my easier canary part 3 file in ffrcp4 for a good example of a bad easy chart). the challenge would definitely be identifying potential candidates for harder and easier charts and not trying to shoehorn songs into where they don't belong in terms of different charts. |

Re: New Pack?
as long as you have good song choices it's fine. if i don't think a file is that great you can probably salvage it with the right song and i could tell you how in order to clean it up.

Re: New Pack?
i've had a decent number of people contact me saying they would submit files so i think there is a pretty good chance that this will happen
