Re: ASMR - the opposite of nails on a chalkboard
I usually experience ASMR when I'm at libraries that are near dead silent. Every whisper, every flip of a page, every step becomes an audible sensation.

Re: ASMR - the opposite of nails on a chalkboard
This happens to me whenever I get a haircut. Whether it's the agile slidey-metallic snip-snip-snip of the scissors, or the buzz of the... whatever the hell that thing is called, word is escaping me at the moment... buzzer? Err, wait, is it seriously buzzer? Seems wrong. Anyway, that.

Re: ASMR - the opposite of nails on a chalkboard
Seems like half fo all asmr videos on youtube involve haircut role playing.

You get quiet sound right by your ears, and weird tactile inputs. Doesn't surprise me at all.

Re: ASMR - the opposite of nails on a chalkboard
It's all about the little sounds that a person makes when they talk that aren't part of the actual word, like lips slightly smacking, the intakes of breath.

Re: ASMR - the opposite of nails on a chalkboard
I personally hate the smacking -- but I like the "clicks" of certain hard consonants when whispered

Re: ASMR - the opposite of nails on a chalkboard
Well in a regular conversation, the moist sound of someone smacking's gross. But the soft barely audible sound of it is quite different.

Re: ASMR - the opposite of nails on a chalkboard
This is REALLY bizarre... but the essence of my synesthesia has to do with a visual representation of ASMR. It involves visualizing a large dark blue ball, and then a PIXEL sized dark blue speck that runs through the dark blue ball, and stretches the membrane of it. It is so small in detail that it causes my brain to go into an ASMR type state, especially when I imagine these things circling/rotating each other when this animation happens.
This may or may not also be related but I get a similar sensation if I see a swarm of bugs over my head, a flock of birds taking off, and maybe fireworks.

Re: ASMR - the opposite of nails on a chalkboard
I sometimes have this sensation when my Aunt who lives in another state visits me and is affectionate with me. For most people, I would be really uncomfortable when someone hugged me for no reason. However, the way she used to hug me and stroke my hair when I was about seven-years-old somehow gives me the same feeling as an adult...

Re: ASMR - the opposite of nails on a chalkboard
I think that's more along the lines of nostalgia, though there could be a related mechanism.
PS does the voice in this employ ASMR? It starts at 2:00. It's always given me a similar feeling to the gentle voices stuff.

Oh by the way Fairy Char is also a really good ASMR channel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5v3joq3Fq4 But she looks exactly like a female Litodude and once I realized that it more or less ruined every one of her videos for me rofl all I see is his avatar
