Tales of phantasia
Done with my first start up run (the ones you do before you try really hard to get a good time) Really bad time because im so used to using turbo mode most of the time, and i didnt have to go down in the Morlia dungeon to get excalibur and etc stuff but it was pretty good for the lvls, making me kick dhaos ass in like 2 minutes. I came up with a reallt good way to kill the last form off really fast, all you have to do when he has the hallucination thing on go and stand behind him so and fire away with Magma Rift.
I know that on my main speedrun i'll get like 12-15hrs beause this run was really bad and not that good at all, i lvld up to much to get a good time as well. Now for round 2 (This is just before the dhaos battle.

Re: Tales of phantasia
Tales of Phantasia turned out to be an amazing game on the SNES. So if you're going to play ToP, make sure you play it on the SNES instead of the GBA. When I played the game on the GBA, it was just so bad, I decided to quit before getting the second city. However, when I swapped over to the SNES, it was way better. The battle system was smoother and the music didn't suck complete ass.
I'm surprised you finished your first run in 20 hours. I did mine in 30 hours, but I also completed everything and maxed everyone's levels. I also had well over 1000 battles, I don't remember how many, but I'm pretty sure it was close or over 2000. ~Tsugomaru

Well, the first portion of my post wasn't addressed to you. It was addressed to whoever wanted to play the game. When I played it on the GBA instead of the SNES, I almost ended up not finishing this amazing game.

Re: Tales of phantasia
I wouldn't call the battle system smooth.
My main complaint is that it's hell to get around quickly because Cless walks so slowly. You can sort of get around this by targeting a far-away enemy, in which case he will run over to slash it. The rest of the party moves sluggishly too, and there's really nothing you can do about that. Another small complaint is when you have a bird or some small flying enemy right next to Cless. Due to the close proximity, Cless will take a normal swing, which hits too low, and that low swing is the only swing you get at that range. You could easily assign a close-range jumping tech, though it's still a small nuisance. It still beats ATB, though. Anyway, I've been playing on and off for about a year. I'm 13 hours in and just went though the Moria Gallery. How far is that? |

Re: Tales of phantasia
You're either almost halfway or halfway into the game. I honestly can't remember. The battle system isn't completely smooth, but it's smoother than the GBA version and after 2000 or so battles, I didn't find it boring. So that's saying something.
The only thing that annoyed me in this game was all the random battles. In later Tales games, you can choose whether or not you want to fight battles because you can run into the monsters in the field or dungeon or run around and avoid them. The number of random battles in ToP happens a decent amount of times early game, but as you advance, they seem to only happen increasingly. There was a time where I could only move 5 steps in the dungeon without entering a battle and it gets annoying fast. For example, there are these single rooms with treasure chests in them. On your walk to the chest, you might enter a battle. On your way back to the door, if you didn't enter a battle, you will enter one or you may enter your second battle in that small room. ~Tsugomaru
