Default Regarding Emotional Music

This is in reference to this thread

We got into a discussion concerning "emotional" music, to which I explained that I felt that some of the music I listened to was more emotional than all of the "emo" genre.

To prove this I have uploaded a file full of amazing songs.

Quote:
1. Fish - Cliche (7.01)

Essentially a love song but not in the simple pop sense. Really done well though and is still currently my song for Krissy.

2. Godspeed You! Black Emperor (23.18)

Instrumental band who are pretty much my definition of instruments sometimes having more emotion than singing. This song is one of my favourites by them.

3. Kevin Gilbert - Staring Into Nothing (5.52)

May not make complete lyrical sense due to it being part of a concept album. Still, I'm sure you can see where I see emotion perhaps. The album is a mixture of stuff, mainly heavy rock and calmer rock.

4. No-Man - All Sweet Things (6.47)

From their newest album that came out this year. Probably my favourite album by them. Also the most emotional. Every single song has as much emotion as this one (which is the first song on the album). This is probably the one I would say that has the most emotion out of any song I'm uploading so check this out first or something if you want.

5. Pain Of Salvation - King Of Loss (9.47)

I would have probably chosen another song if I could have found the album but ahwell, no big deal. Daniel Gildenlow has one of the most expressive singing voices in my opinion.

6. Stream Of Passion - Haunted (4.31)

This is my definition of "ear sex". One of my favourite female vocalists. The album this is from is more "goth" in style but still good.

7. The Tangent - A Place In The Queue (25.15)

Ya, long. Also happens to be one of my favourite songs of all time. The Tangent's main guy is one of the smartest lyricists that I know. This song is generally about his dislike of the current British Government. How they take away your rights etc. Honestly, read the lyrics to this song.

8. Wastefall - Another Empty Haven (5.55)

9. Wolverine - This Cold Heart Of Mine (7.52)

Added in two metal songs at the end. Both are not the best songs on their respective albums but both are awesome metal songs that also can show emotions.

So ya, that'll be what you can get.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor never fails to send a chill down my spine. They prove words are unnecessary to express ideas and emotions. Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Ros in ( ) (Hopelandic album conveying no true verbal message) pull this off very nicely as well.

I have all the Explosions In The Sky albums and I also own 3 Sigur Ros albums (Takk, (), and Ágætis Byrjun [which is my favourite]). They are indeed awesome. I just chose GY!BE because I felt they expressed things better than others.

I'll download it tomorrow, but I'm going to go play a bit of FFR.

P.S. In case you guys don't realize it, emo music isn't supposed to only be about emotion. If it were, then almost all music would be considered emo.

Again, I don't want to sound like her unofficial spokesperson, but.. Hiromi Uehara's trio and her Hiromi's Sonicbloom project manage to convey as much emotion music and instruments could ever do on their own.

Reaper, you never did say whether you liked the album I linked.

Did I not say anything? I enjoyed it quite a lot. She reminded me a little of a modern day version of Jean-Luc Ponty. Led Boots was probably my favourite song on first listen. Though I'll probably need more listens to let it sink in more.

Also - I chose some of my favourite songs on short notice that I felt displayed what I was talking about. My song choice may have been slightly different (or at least larger) if I had taken more time with this.

Granted what I have in that rar is awesome.

Downloaded the songs, listened to them and loved most of them! This is definitely the kind of emotional music I like to listen to! If you ever feel like uploading more songs, you know that at least one person will download them .

PS: thanks a lot for sharing them!

First off, sorry for the slight bump.

Anyways, I listened to all of the songs except A Place in the Queue (which I'll listen to today) and I really liked some of them. I really like Cloudy Now and All Sweet Things, and oh my god, the Godspeed You! song was incredible! Thank you for showing me such an amazing band. I thought Cliche and Haunted were cheesy as hell though.

I'm probably going to upload an emotional mix soon, it will have some emo and screamo stuff and some that's not.

Haunted is a completely different style to everything in that rar so I'll let you away with that one.

Cliche is not "cheesy" at all. Cliche is exactly what the song says; a man who struggles to find a way to express his love to someone but is forced to go back to the old Cliches. I think it's amazing, but hey.

Yes, No-Man and Blackfield are awesome. Same guy in both bands by the by. Steven Wilson. He's also in Porcupine Tree (his main band), Bass Communion (electronic soundscape stuff), IEM (Incredible Expanding Mind****), and also does some silly solo stuff.

GY!BE is amazing yes, that entire album is great but that's my favourite song on the album.

A Place In The Queue is a different kind of emotional just to let you know. Also - It's a very "British" band with a lot of the witty lyrics relating to Britain and whatnot, but that song should be pretty universally acceptable.

At least you checked it out.
