Re: 6th Official FFR Tournament - Round 1 has started!
Why don't you go through the entrants and see if you can place them into 6 groups, where not one single group (apart from D6) has anyone who stands out more than the others any significant amount. If you can do that, then I'm sure your ideas will be used. At the moment you're criticising without offering any alternative way of fixing it that would actually work to the degree you seem to think is possible.

You need to understand that NO ONE possess the same amount of skill as someone else. Even 10 divisions wouldn't be enough to fit everyone perfectly in the right division.

Re: 6th Official FFR Tournament - Round 1 has started!
If it's of any consolation Ryusei, I've heard that official tourneys will now resume as an annual event, so I'm sure there will be more of these in the future.
Also, just work your butt off, regardless of how illogical it seems. You might be pleasantly surprised and find yourself being more productive trying than complaining. [That's not to say though that we don't hear your concerns.] |

Re: 6th Official FFR Tournament - Round 1 has started!
There's 3 solutions
1 - no more official tourneys 2 - 1 division only like most games are anyway. 3- add 3948304 divisions so everyone can play against someone of their skill but eliminate all prizes because it's too much to pay out for one tourney. So just bragging rights here. Altho even the 3rd option wont work because people are better at different things. Even if they're basically the same skill level one jack song could kill of one competitor and trills another. |

Re: 6th Official FFR Tournament - Round 1 has started!
I never said it was done unfairly, I said I wasn't expecting it and probably could have fit the division below it. There's no unfairly placed people here. None of the previous official tournaments have accounted for drops in skill, and with a tournament of this size with these kinds of prizes, it never should. I'm not going to let someone who says they have a skill drop come to me and convince me to drop, because regardless of who you are, your stats reflect the potential that you have or once had. Anyone can get back to that skill if they really want it.
I'm -really- failing to see the point of this argument. |

THERE ARE TOO MANY GODDAMN PEOPLE POSTING BEFORE ME i hate you all
EDIT: honestly, you could go on and on about why you think people don't belong where you are; it's not going to change where these people are |

But I'm glad that there are other people that understand this. We're not targeting anyone, we don't like that we can't make perfect divisions, but it's the nature of this game. There's so much variance in skill. |

Re: 6th Official FFR Tournament - Round 1 has started!
I've said it quite a few times now, regardless of the number on this file it would be the same spot. I wanted a file that was borderline 9/10 just like I wanted borderline 10/11 in D5 and so on. I did this to ensure I wouldn't have to worry about it being a straight up AAA fest in the divisions because to me that's not much of a competition. If you can just play, boom AAA, that's just boring. Right now I've got people in D4 busting their butts which will help them later in the tourney.

Re: 6th Official FFR Tournament - Round 1 has started!
Again, that will always be the case. I highly doubt there are any points on the theoretical 'skill curve' where there are huge definable gaps where you could cut off these tournament divisions. No matter how you sort people, you'll get really good and really bad people in every division. Move them around? Then the divisions you move them into get more of a skill divide.

Re: 6th Official FFR Tournament - Round 1 has started!
And the BEST solution is to keep it how it is now, because then it's set out like 6 different 'option 2s', which at least in some way allow for skill divides.

Re: 6th Official FFR Tournament - Round 1 has started!
oh and under all 2304982304 divisions we could have subdivisions for people with different TYPE of skills so the people who are equally good at FFR in general and are GOOD at jacking would be in division 234A, if you're good at streams it's 234B, if you're good at trills, 234C, etc...
Problem solved. lol

Re: 6th Official FFR Tournament - Round 1 has started!
There will always be someomone unhappy no matter what you do. From a personal perspective, I'm really happy with my placement this year. When I first saw I was in d4, I was thinking 'wow, I'm going to be wrecked,' and then when I played the song the first time I thought I had no chance. Instead, I decided to really go for it and play more than I have for years, focusing on the patterns and learning. I ended going from being happy with a 19 messy good to a clean 2 good and I still think I can improve. If I'd been in d3 I wouldn't have pushed myself at all. I think it's a good idea to be put in a division you think you have no chance at because when you really put your mind to it and practice you can surprise yourself with the sort of skillboosts you can achieve. If I hadn't been in the tourney I never would have pushed for the score I have now, so even if I go outin the next round this tourney has been worth it for me.
apologies for the wall of text.

But I see it just like this, which was why I brought up the 1 division thing. To put this into perspective. If it's 1 division a good lot of us have NO chance at all. Where as at least this way there is some chance. |

The same mindset was apparent in the discussions about the difficulty level of the tournament songs. "Well WE thought it was this, so obviously this bulk of the community saying differently is wrong." was pretty much how that entire thread went.
