I could make out 'battle royale' and 'Lupin'. That was it. The rest was completely unintelligable.

Yeah, it is a pretty good book. I don't think the movie this person is talking about is based on the book, though.

i haven't read the book, but yes, i'm pretty damn sure the movie is based on the book

it is about students being forced onto an island to struggle against each other for survival

Were they all black? That is one of the central themes of the novel, is the black man's struggle for equality.

We went over the first chapter in the book in my English 102 class. (The first chapter was originally a short story he ended up putting as the first chapter of a book.) It's quite interesting.

...er, not quite
hundreds of thousands of japanese students are boycotting school, so in order to keep students (and child population from rising) from doing this, a randomly selected 9th grade class is selected to participate in a battle royale every so often. In the Battle royale, each student is handed a backpack containing food, water, and a random weapon, ranging from uzi to a paper fan. Each student has an unremovable necklace which keeps track of location and pulse. The object of the game is to kill all the other students in order to remain alive. if all the students save one are not eliminated, the necklaces blow up and they all die. Interesting psychological effects.

Im liking the book.

That is a weird spin on the book, then.
